Worf’s Son Gets A Deep Cut Star Trek Easter Egg In Lower Decks Season 4 Episode 9

Worf’s Son Gets A Deep Cut Star Trek Easter Egg In Lower Decks Season 4 Episode 9

Star Trek: Lower Decks season 4, episode 9, “The Inner Fight,” contains a deep-cut Easter egg related to Worf’s (Michael Dorn) son, Alexander Rozhenko, in Star Trek: The Next Generation. Disgraced ex-Starfleet Cadet Nicholas Locarno (Robert Duncan McNeill) was revealed as the villain who attacked several non-Federation ships and kidnapped their command crews in Lower Decks season 4. Locarno beamed Lieutenant Beckett Mariner (Tawny Newsome) aboard his starship, Nova One. When Mariner awoke and remarked, “What in the minimalist hell?” as she regarded Locarno’s starship, an Easter egg calling back to Worf’s son is visible in the background.

On Twitter/X, Jörg Hillebrand (@gaghyogi49), who was a researcher for Star Trek: Picard season 3 and is famed by Star Trek creatives for his ability to spot Easter eggs, noted that Locarno’s “minimalist hell” starship has a bowl identical to the bowl containing a Dalvin hissing beetle that Worf’s son, Alexander Rozhenko, owned in Star Trek: The Next Generation. Check out his post below:

What Happened To Worf’s Son Alexander In Star Trek?

Could Alexander Rozhenko return if Star Trek: Legacy happens?

Worf’s son, Alexander Rozhenko, was last seen in Star Trek: Deep Space Nine season 7. Alexander was a young boy when he was introduced in Star Trek: The Next Generation and neither he nor Worf had an easy time when Alexander lived aboard the USS Enterprise-D with his father. Alexander’s issues with living up to Worf, as well as establishing himself as a Klingon warrior, continued on DS9. Though he struggled to fit into the Klingon Defense Forces, Alexander served admirably in the Dominion War as a crew member of the Rotarran and the Ya’Vang.

Captain Worf’s return in Star Trek: Picard season 3 didn’t answer the question of what happened to Alexander. Worf embraced a form of pacifism and spiritualism to atone for his past mistakes in Picard season 3, but it’s not known if Alexander is alive and survived the Dominion War 25 years prior. If Picard’s proposed spinoff, Star Trek: Legacy, happens, it’s possible Alexander could be referenced or even appear, considering that Legacy would be about the ‘next generation’ of Star Trek: The Next Generation, which Alexander was an early example of. As a grown adult Klingon, though, Alexander probably has long outgrown owning a Dalvin hissing beetle.

Star Trek: Lower Decks and Star Trek: The Next Generation are available to stream on Paramount+.
