Wonka’s World Is Filled With Lots Of Pink & Assorted Candies In New Prequel Poster

Timothée Chalamet’s candy maker is surrounding by sweets in a very colorful new poster for Wonka. Directed by Paul King, the upcoming prequel movie serves as an adaptation of Roald Dahl’s Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Chalamet takes on the titular role in the film, which chronicles one of chocolatier’s earliest adventures when he first encounters the Oompa Loompas.

Now, ahead of the Wonka release date, Warner Bros. has shared a new poster for the film, revealing some very colorful new candy designs. Check out the poster below:

In addition to Chalamet, the poster features Hugh Grant’s Oompa Loompa and Calah Lane’s Noodle, and they’re all surrounded by an array of delectable-looking candy in the shape of flowers, clouds, and animals.

Can Wonka Live Up To The 1971 Original?

Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory Remains A Beloved Classic

The latest poster, just like the recent Wonka trailers, have made clear that the upcoming prequel will be borrowing heavily in some respects from 1971’s Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, which stars Gene Wilder in the title role. King has already confirmed his love for the Mel Stuart film, revealing that he very consciously opted to continue several elements from that movie in his own.

The design of the Grant’s Oompa Loompa, for example, is clearly more reminiscent of the Oompa Loompa design featured in Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory than the one featured Tim Burton’s Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. The upcoming prequel will also seemingly feature Chalamet singing a rendition of “Pure Imagination,” which is not only the most memorable song from the 1971 classic, but one of the most iconic movie songs ever.

Wonka‘s lean toward Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, then, will definitely result in comparisons between the two movies. The latter remains beloved even more than 50 years later, and so too does Wilder’s take on the mysterious chocolate-maker. Chalamet has, however, proven himself a very talented and dynamic actor, and he might be just the star to introduce Dahl’s whimsical source material to a new generation.
