Wonka’s Magic Briefcase Recreated In Stunningly Realistic, Life-Size Chocolate Sculpture

Wonka’s Magic Briefcase Recreated In Stunningly Realistic, Life-Size Chocolate Sculpture

Wonka‘s magical travel case is stunningly recreated as a realistic scupture, and it’s made entirely of chocolate. Directed by Paul King, the latest adaptation of Roald Dahl’s Charlie and the Chocolate Factory sees Timothée Chalamet starring as eccentric chocolatier Willy Wonka. The film serves as an origin story for the character, chronicling one of his earliest adventures when he meets the Oompa Loompas and comes into possession of a chocolate factory.

Now, chocolatier Amaury Guichon on Instagram has recreated Willy Wonka’s travel case using nothing but chocolate. Check out the video showing how the sculpture came together below:

The case was featured in several of the trailers for Wonka, with Hugh Grant’s Oompa Loompa opening it up at one point to serve as a sitting room, of sorts.

How Has Wonka Been Received?

As of this writing, Wonka‘s Rotten Tomatoes score is tied with Tim Burton’s 2005 film, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, at 83%. Both of these adaptations fall short of Mel Stuart’s iconic 1971 original, Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, which stars Gene Wilder as the eponymous chocolatier and holds an impressive score of 91%.

Wonka‘s critics’ reviews have, for the most part, been positive, with reviewers praising the film’s production design and whimsy, as well as Chalamet’s charming lead performance. King has made clear that he was heavily inspired by Stuart’s 1971 movie, and this is apparent in the prequel’s tone and general visual presentation. Some critics, however, have taken issue with the movie’s underlying story and themes, which perhaps aren’t as fleshed out or as emotionally resonant as they could have been.

It’s still too early to properly gauge how audiences have been receiving the film, but it currently holds a strong 87% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes (with only just over 100 reviews). This score is subject to change as more reviews are added, but, so far, it seems that general movie-goers are more receptive to Wonka than to Burton’s movie, which only has a 51%.
