Wonka crossing $600 million globally is more significant than just garnering a handsome sum. The milestone means that the film is now one of only seven films released in 2023 that crossed the $600 million mark. It ended its tenth weekend at $604.9 million worldwide and nearly $210 million domestically. While it still remains No. 8 on the top 10 charts for highest-grossing 2023 domestic releases, it has now surpassed several of its contenders on the worldwide scale.
Wonka’s Box Office Confirms Timothée Chalamet Is A True Movie Star Now
Timothee Chalamet has had an impressive career since he began in 2014, however, Wonka’s success has confirmed that the actor is a true movie star.
Wonka is $5 million away from surpassing Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania to become the seventh highest-grossing domestic release of 2023. Although the third installment in the Ant-Man film series boasted $215 million domestically, it only achieved $476.1 million worldwide, missing the $600 million milestone by quite a bit. Additionally, The Little Mermaid, which was the sixth highest-grossing domestic release of 2023 with $298 million, just missed the $600 million mark with $569.6 million worldwide.
It’s unknown how much longer Wonka will remain in theaters. However, there is still a chance it will surpass Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania on the domestic charts. Even if it doesn’t, the $600 million mark proves that the film wasn’t just a success in its home market. In fact, it has earned almost double what it earned in the U.S. in other territories. These numbers are a testimony to the film’s universal appeal. Since its release, Wonka hasn’t just been shaking things up among 2023’s in-year releases but has also been making a splash on the worldwide stage.
