Wonder Woman: Lynda Carter Confirms Sequel Cameo Discussions

Lynda Carter has confirmed she’s in talks to appear in the Wonder Woman sequel. Director Patty Jenkins has been pressing for a cameo from the actor, who suited up for the film’s starring role via her own TV series in the ’70s, since she started work on the first movie, but the timing didn’t work out. When asked by a fan on Twitter whether she’d keep trying to land Carter for the franchise’s second go-round, Jenkins replied emphatically that she would.

Both women have been vocal about their appreciation for each other’s stake in Wonder Woman: Jenkins, for Carter’s legacy, and Carter for Jenkins’ treatment of it. When Carter congratulated Jenkins et all for the movie’s staggering box office success, Jenkins responded: “Bravo you Lynda. Come on. Let’s admit what was major in starting all of this.”

Now, as focus turns to the sequel, it seems the stars may align for Wonder Woman‘s second outing. In an interview with People, Carter revealed she’d already been approached to appear in the all-but-confirmed movie, and that while nothing is set in stone, she hopes it works out this time around:

“We were trying to get me in the first one and we couldn’t make it work with our timing…It really is up to Patty, and if it works in an organic way it’ll be great fun and it’ll be wonderful to do. Am I open to it? Absolutely. I ADORE Patty Jenkins, and it’ll be wonderful to do. But we’ll just see how that goes.”

She went on to say that though she ultimately wasn’t involved in the first Wonder Woman film, she greatly appreciated Jenkins’ vision:

“I was so taken with the both of them, and taken with Patty from the beginning when she very first got this film, and we talked on the phone. I just said that she knows who this character is. Because Wonder Woman — it’s the idea of her. It’s not about superpowers, it’s about her intellect and compassion. It’s so much more than some comic book character, because we identify with it.”

Plus Carter, for her part, hasn’t been absent from the DC universe: Last year, she joined CW series Supergirl for a recurring part as Olivia Marsdin, the fictional President of the United States who turns out to be an alien. And hopefully soon, she’ll be shifting back to the big screen for Wonder Woman. It’s clear there’s zealous interest on both ends, so a Carter cameo seems very likely, at least at some point. It will just come down to timing.
