Wonder Woman Game Should Copy Batman: Arkham’s Approach To Voice Actors

Wonder Woman Game Should Copy Batman: Arkham’s Approach To Voice Actors

The short teaser for the new Wonder Woman game has become one of the most talked-about trailers to come from The Game Awards 2021, and while there isn’t much information on the game just yet, it could benefit from following in the footsteps of the Batman: Arkham series in bringing back one of Wonder Woman’s most prolific and iconic voice actors, Susan Eisenberg. While Wonder Woman may not have a voice actor that is as closely tied to the character as Kevin Conroy is to Batman, Susan Eisenberg has proven to be one of, if not the most, celebrated voices for the character. While Diana herself does not speak in the Wonder Woman game’s reveal trailer, and there is no word yet on who is going to be included in the voice cast, the game would benefit greatly from enlisting the considerable talents of Eisenberg, who voiced the character in the DC Animated Universe.

When Batman: Arkham Asylum first released in 2009, it featured a massive cast of talented voice actors that worked to bring the massive cast of heroes and villains to life. None, however, were as high profile as the casting of Kevin Conroy and Mark Hamill as Batman and the Joker respectively. The two actors had voiced the characters in the beloved Batman: The Animated Series and over the years had become the characters’ most recognizable voices. This helped to add authenticity to the game, making fans feel that they were playing as Batman battling against the Joker. While Batman: Arkham Origins changed its Joker and Batman voice actors, Conroy and Hamill’s voice talents, along with fellow Batman: The Animated Series alum Arleen Sorkin, added a sense of credibility to Batman: Arkham Asylum‘s portrayals of its characters.

Bringing in Susan Eisenberg to reprise her role as Wonder Woman could bring a similar authenticity to the Wonder Woman game. Fans of the animated Justice League series, which is still considered to be one of the most popular on-screen portrayals of the superhero team, will feel like they have stepped into the role of the Wonder Woman they recognize. In addition, Eisenberg is no stranger to voicing the character in video games, including Injustice: Gods Among Us and its sequel. Although she will not be voicing Wonder Woman in WB: MultiVersus, an actor with her experience voicing the character could be a great asset in a game centered around the character.

Monolith’s Wonder Woman Game Needs Susan Eisenberg

Susan Eisenberg began her tenure as Wonder Woman in the Justice League animated show that ran from 2001-2004. The show ran for two seasons and was followed up by Justice League Unlimited, which continued the series’ story. Following Unlimited‘s conclusion, Eisenberg voiced Wonder Woman in several animated Justice League Films, including Superman/Batman: Apocalypse and Justice League: Doom. She has also lent her voice to the character in several video games, including Injustice 2 and the LEGO Batman titles. She also voiced Wonder Woman in DC Universe Online.

It was announced at The Game Awards 2021 that Wonder Woman would utilize the Nemesis system from Middle Earth: Shadow of Mordor and its sequel, and that it would play into the game’s player-driven narrative experience. Not many other details have been released about Wonder Woman‘s story, but if it follows in the footsteps of the Batman: Arkham series, the game’s narrative will be a big part of the overall experience. However Wonder Woman chooses to tell its story, the inclusion of Susan Eisenberg as the eponymous hero would bring an authenticity to the role that could help sell the new portrayal to both longtime fans and newcomers alike.
