Wonder Woman 1984 Officially Certified Fresh By Rotten Tomatoes

The latest entry in the DC Extended Universe, Wonder Woman 1984, has officially been certified fresh on review aggregation site Rotten Tomatoes. The movie sees the return of Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman, taking place in 1984, decades after the events of the first film, but still over 30 years before she’s seen again in Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice and Justice League. The movie will be the first to get a same day release in theaters and on HBO Max on December 25, something which will happen with all of Warner Bros’ movies in 2021.

Alongside Gadot, Wonder Woman 1984 will also bring back Chris Pine as Steve Trevor, and introduce Pedro Pascal’s Max Lord, as well as Kristen Wiig’s Barbara Minerva, aka Cheetah. The movie’s release on Christmas Day comes after a number of delays pushed it back from its original release date all the way back in November 2019. However, those delays don’t seem to have affected anticipation for the film, and early reviews have made it clear Wonder Woman 1984 is worth the wait. Screen Rant’s own Molly Freeman calls it a movie filled with hope, love and wonder, and other critics seem to agree.

Now, the movie’s own Twitter account is celebrating the positive reviews, with Wonder Woman 1984 officially certified fresh on Rotten TomatoesThe site aggregates critic reviews for the film, with 89 percent of them giving it a positive review so far. The general consensus from critics is that it’s a fresh, hopeful sequel perfect for lifting spirits at the end of a tough year for everyone. You can check out the Tweet celebrating the milestone below:

The film’s rating makes it one of the best-reviewed of the DCEU. Its current rating of 89 percent (which could change as more reviews come in) puts it just behind Shazam!, which was certified fresh at 90 percent, and the original Wonder Woman, which has a 93 percent fresh rating on the site. It’s a sign of the quality of Patty Jenkins’ movies that they are two out of the four DCEU movies to be certified fresh, with Birds of Prey (and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn) the only other movie from the franchise to make the grade.

The reviews are also a good sign for the health of the DCEU, with The Suicide Squad and The Batman lined up for release in 2021 and 2022. Hopefully, DC has turned the corner in terms of quality and will start producing more hits after the disappointment of the original Suicide Squad, as well as Batman V Superman and Justice League. Now all Wonder Woman 1984 needs to do is win over actual audiences, though early signs are that it shouldn’t have any problem doing that.
