Wolverine’s New Upgrade Trades His Healing Factor for a Better Version of Colossus’ Powers

Wolverine’s New Upgrade Trades His Healing Factor for a Better Version of Colossus’ Powers

Warning: Contains SPOILERS for Wolverine #48! Wolverine’s healing factor is one of the most iconic aspects of his character, as it allows him to survive practically any conflict without so much as a scratch on his skin afterward. However, following his most recent conflict, that’s no longer the case. Logan has lost his iconic healing factor, all while his greatest enemy, Sabretooth, is still wreaking havoc on mutantkind. Though that shouldn’t mean he’s out of the fight, as Wolverine effectively traded his healing factor for a better version of Colossus’ power with an epic new upgrade.

In Wolverine #48 by Benjamin Percy, Victor LaValle, and Cory Smith, Logan is recovering after Sabretooth shot him with a beam of Forge’s design that took away his mutant powers. Sabretooth was seemingly defeated by his former Exiles teammates immediately afterward, who took Wolverine in to treat his wounds. Even without his healing factor, Wolverine quickly recovers, and then takes the team of mutants to one of his secret hideouts in Alaska, where they can plan their next moves against Creed’s army of multiversal variants.

Before making their plan of attack against the Sabreteeth army, Wolverine suits up in his adamantium armor that was built and stored away just in case he ever lost his healing factor. Wolverine #48 ends with Logan showing off his new look, complete with full-body adamantium coverage and the addition of a weapon that can kill someone with a healing factor, the Muramasa Blade. That means Wolverine didn’t just effectively undo what Sabretooth did to him, but he can now return the favor.

Deadpool and Wolverine are taking off on an all-new team-up crossover in Marvel Comics (before the MCU), and it’s beginning with a hilarious insult.

Wolverine’s Adamantium Armor is Way Stronger Than Colossus’ Organic Steel

The Amazing X-Men #12 (2014) by Craig Kyle, Chris Yost, Carlo Barberi, and Iban Coello

Wendigo-Wolverine stabbing Colossus.

Not only will Wolverine be able to chop Sabretooth to pieces with his new armor/sword combo, but he has also effectively surpassed the mutation of one of his fellow X-Men: Colossus. Colossus’ mutant power is to generate organic steel around his entire body, making him virtually impenetrable and generally unstoppable. However, Colossus’ organic steel has nothing on adamantium, something that’s been explicitly proven in Marvel Comics lore.

In The Amazing X-Men #12, Colossus and the X-Men go to war against a small army of Wendigos, and one of those cursed/mutated people was Wolverine himself. During the battle, the Wolverine-Wendigo stabs Colossus with his adamantium claws, easily puncturing the organic steel through the entry and exit wounds. The adamantium didn’t just slice Colossus, it punched three holes directly through him with ease – and those were just Wolverine’s claws.

Wolverine is Ready for His Bloodiest Battle Against Sabretooth Yet

Wolverine cutting Sabretooth's head off.

Wolverine #48 takes place during the ongoing Sabretooth War, where Victor Creed is at his most gruesomely villainous. So far, Sabretooth has killed Wolverine’s son, Akihiro, kidnapped Wolverine’s daughter, Laura, and forced Wolverine to become a killer once more through brainwashing abilities he stole from Quentin Quire (who Wolverine was also very close to). That’s not even reiterating the fact that Sabretooth robbed Wolverine of his healing factor. When Wolverine goes after Sabretooth in this new adamantium suit, he won’t be holding back, and Sabretooth will deserve every bloody second of it.

Right now, fans only have the visual of Wolverine wearing his adamantium armor, and will have to wait to see it in action. However, what fans know about how strong adamantium is, and how rage-filled Wolverine has become in regard to Sabretooth, is enough to confirm how epic their final battle will be. Plus, if Wolverine never gets his healing factor back, at least he’s found a way to replace it with armor that basically has turned him into an even better version of Colossus.

Wolverine

The human mutant Wolverine (a.k.a. Logan) was born James Howlett, blessed with a superhuman healing factor, senses, and physiology. Subjecting himself to experimentation to augment his skeleton and claws with adamantium, Logan is as deadly as he is reckless, impulsive, and short-tempered. Making him the X-Men’s wildest and deadliest member, and one of Marvel Comics’ biggest stars.
