Wolverine Stories Will Finally Stop Ignoring His Kids, Marvel Hints

When it comes to Marvel comic book heroes and their offspring, none are as prolific as Wolverine. He is a mutant hero with a complicated past and his children are no exception. Fans have long been clamoring for a story that shows Wolverine spending time with his family, and a recent interview with Marvel Comics Editor Jordan D. White hints at a brand-new “Snikt-Family” story.

Wolverine has fathered more than 15 kids across different universes, with nearly all of them being mutants who have inherited a fusion of Wolverine’s abilities and their mother’s. Unfortunately not all of them can say they have a positive relationship with him. The poster child for Wolverine’s offspring is the infamous Laura Kinney, also known as X-23. Ever since her television debut in 2003’s X-Men Evolution she’s been widely regarded as one of Wolverine’s most influential and powerful offspring. To be a father in Marvel Comics is a complicated affair, and this is exemplified by the fact that almost all of Wolverine’s children want to kill him, with the two most notable being Daken (son of Itsu and Wolverine) and Raze (son of Mystique and Wolverine). Despite the violence, fans want to see a storyline where Wolverine interacts with his children.

In an interview with AIPT, Marvel Senior Editor Jordan D. White hints that a ‘Snikt-Family’ story is coming where Wolverine will spend time with his family. When asked if readers can expect more stories where Logan interacts with his children and working together with them as a unit, White said, “Yes, I think you can expect that.” White added that X-Force and Wolverine writer Benjamin Percy has been wanting to do a story like that, but there has always been one reason or another why he couldn’t, such as Laura Kinney’s Wolverine being stuck in the Vault. “He wanted to do a big family story that we couldn’t. But he was very happy to finally be able to do it in X Deaths of Wolverine. But yes, you will see them together again, for sure.”

This would be a major change for Wolverine’s family status quo because he historically has never consistently acknowledged his children. This family-first idea would provide a great opportunity for a Wolverine story. A leadership role in his family would allow Logan to tap into the potential each of his children possesses, while also reintroducing single-mention favorites like Erista. A majority of Logan’s offspring exist across different timelines and realities, so to have the distant siblings in one story would definitely be a timeline-defining moment for his status quo.

Wolverine’s children have proven themselves time and time again that they are extremely powerful mutants. This is evidenced by one of Wolverine’s forgotten children, Fire Knives, who unlocks a new genetic mutation ability for Wolverine. While Marvel’s heroes have complicated relationships with their children there’s none more complicated than Logan’s. It’s an established part of canon that his children usually want to kill him, so it’s intriguing to imagine a family-centric Wolverine comic. Thankfully fans might see Snikt family stories on the horizon that would completely change Wolverine‘s and Marvel’s family status quo.
