While Wolverine and Cyclops are two X-Men who are no strangers to live-action appearances, the iconic Marvel Comics frenemies never looked more comic accurate than they do in an absolutely breathtaking image featuring two outstanding cosplays. These cosplays don’t just feature Cyclops and Wolverine in the correct costumes, either, as they also include other aspects of their Marvel Comics personas that have never been captured in live-action before.
In an image posted on Instagram by user Imposter Cosplay – with photo credit to BriLan Imagery and editing by batsturd (who is also the Wolverine cosplayer) – two cosplayers are posed next to each other in battle-ready positions as Wolverine and Cyclops, respectively. Cyclops towers over Wolverine in a suit that’s reminiscent of his classic ‘90s X-Men uniform, his optic blast shooting from his visor.
Wolverine is crouched beside Cyclops in his yellow and blue costume, claws drawn and ready for combat. The Wolverine cosplayer also has a cigar in his mouth, as Logan often did in his earlier comic book portrayals. While each of them stand out individually, the two cosplays come together brilliantly in the image, as they are seemingly thrown right in the middle of an epic battle against any one of the X-Men’s many villains.

There are many real-world adaptations of Wolverine and Cyclops (including in the films), but this one stands out for not only getting the costumes right, but also the attitudes and – most refreshing of all – the height differences. In the movies, Wolverine (played by actor Hugh Jackman) is about the same height as – if not even taller than – Cyclops (played by actor James Marsden). Needless to say, that’s far from the truth in the comics.
That is a notable height difference that has never been captured in live-action, at least, until this cosplay. Not only that, but including Wolverine chomping on a stogie in the middle of battle is a brilliant touch that makes the overall image that much more comic accurate, and really conveys Wolverine’s attitude through the still picture itself.
The MCU Has the Chance to Bring This Level of X-Men Comic Accuracy to the Screen
While Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine will be making his return to the big screen in the upcoming film Deadpool and Wolverine, it’s a safe bet that his Wolverine won’t be the lasting version of the character as the MCU moves forward with the X-Men. That means the character will have to be recast, just as Cyclops will need a new actor portraying him once the MCU launches its official X-Men continuity. Once those casting decisions get made, the MCU has the chance to bring the level of comic accuracy to the films that these cosplays decidedly achieved.
Despite what the MCU may or may not do in the future of the live-action X-Men franchise, fans will always have this cosplay to turn to when they’re craving truly comic-accurate real-life versions of Cyclops and Wolverine.
