Wizards Of Waverly Place Sequel’s New Images Look Great – But Ignore The Elephant In The Room

Wizards Of Waverly Place Sequel’s New Images Look Great – But Ignore The Elephant In The Room

The Wizards of Waverly Place sequel is exciting in many ways, but the first behind the scenes images ignore a major elephant in the room. Airing from 2007 to 2012, The Wizards of Waverly Place remains one of Disney Channel’s biggest hits, and the show greatly contributed to Selena Gomez’s rise to massive fame. It followed the Russo family as they navigated living in New York City while also secretly being wizards.

It has been confirmed that The Wizards of Waverly Place sequel will have Selena Gomez and David Henrie executive producing and returning to their respective roles of Alex and Justin Russo. Following the announcement, behind the scenes photos of The Wizards of Waverly Place sequel have been released, and they serve to further build anticipation surrounding the show. While it is very exciting to see Gomez and Henrie with some of the new characters on the show, the images do ignore a big point of concern for viewers.

The First BTS Images Of Justin’s Family Make Max’s Role In The Wizards Of Waverly Place Sequel Even More Mysterious

Wizards of Waverly Place would not have been the same without the youngest Russo sibling, Max. That’s why it is important that he returns for the Wizards of Waverly Place sequel in a way that does the character justice, but the first behind the scenes images don’t confirm that this will be the case. The images exclude Jake T. Austin, who plays Max and does not give any indication that he will be in the show, even though he has confirmed that he will be.

Max Matenko, who plays one of Justin’s sons in the upcoming Wizards of Waverly Place reboot posted a photo on Instagram that featured David Henrie and Selena Gomez with the caption “Let’s make some TV magic, Daddy and Auntie Alex!!”. The caption raises further concerns about what Max Russo’s role will look like in the sequel. It’s likely that it will be a smaller cameo, which would serve as an injustice to viewers who saw the character grow up in the original series. It is on many viewers’ wishlists to see this iconic Wizards of Waverly Place in his adulthood.

Max’s Seemingly Small Role In The Wizards Of Waverly Sequel Doesn’t Make Sense After The 2012 Movie

Wizards Of Waverly Place Sequel’s New Images Look Great – But Ignore The Elephant In The Room

Not only is Max’s seemingly small role in The Wizards of Waverly Place sequel disappointing, but it also makes very little sense following the 2012 movie. The Wizards Return: Alex vs. Alex confirmed that Max is still running his family’s sub shop, so it would seem that he would need to have a larger role in the sequel. The sub shop was a huge part of the original series, and it would be very strange if it wasn’t heavily featured in the sequel.

In order for that to happen, though, Max would need to have a larger role in the sequel as well, which is why the lack of indication that he will be a main character is quite confusing. Disney should be mindful of this and try to include him as much as possible in order to maintain the integrity of The Wizards of Waverly Place. Without Max, the show could fall into the all too familiar trap of remakes that miss the mark.
