Will Wendie Malick Return To Night Court? Why Julianne Should Return In Season 2

Will Wendie Malick Return To Night Court? Why Julianne Should Return In Season 2

Night Court season 1 featured an appearance by Wendie Malick as a character named Julianne, and although her time on the television show was brief, the actress should reprise her role in the upcoming season. The NBC sitcom is a revival of the popular 1980s series of the same name and revolves around the night shift (as the title suggests) at the Manhattan Criminal Court in New York City. The show received positive reviews and good ratings following its premiere in 2023. As a result, the network renewed it for a second season, which is set to debut in early 2024 after the end of the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes.

The main cast of Night Court includes Melissa Rauch as Abby Stone, India de Beaufort as Olivia, Kapil Talwalkar as Neil, Lacretta as Donna “Gurgs” Gurganous, and John Larroquette as Dan Fielding. Each episode contains guest stars, of course, and Malick was the central temporary player in season 1, episode 4. Even though the actress only starred in one episode, she left her mark on the audience, and the popularity surrounding Julianne’s appearance indicates that the producers should bring Malick back in season 2.

Wendie Malick Was Only A Guest Star In Night Court Season 1

Will Wendie Malick Return To Night Court? Why Julianne Should Return In Season 2

Wendie Malick guest starred as Julianne in Night Court season 1, episode 4, and the character has not been seen on the television series since. Julianne was a woman that Dan ran into at the coffee shop at the courthouse, and he assumed she was hitting on him (since multiple women had been flirting with him all day), so he quickly turned her down. However, Julianne told Dan that she just wanted him to point her in the direction of the records room. Despite her non-flirtatious intentions, the two hit it off. But the audience (and Dan) later learned that Julianne lied about her true objective.

Following her appearance on Night Court in January 2023, viewers raved about Malick’s character and performance. The episode’s plot twist concerning Julianne was shocking, dramatic, and exciting, especially since Malick plays a great villain. Consequentially, the producers of the NBC sitcom would be wise to circle back to Julianne in the upcoming season.

How Wendie Malick’s Julianne Would Help Night Court Season 2

Wendie Malick as Julianne in Night Court.

As fans recall, Julianne was a criminal who wanted to ruin Dan’s life because he prosecuted her 30 years ago for setting her boyfriend’s house on fire. However, after hearing him relentlessly talk about his late wife Sara when the two were supposed to be having sex, Julianne took pity on Dan. She revealed her true identity and intentions behind running into him at the courthouse. Despite her reluctance to carry out her revenge plot, Julianne is a villain through and through, which automatically makes her an interesting character. Plus, she had great chemistry with Dan, and it would be exciting if Night Court season 2 further explored their complex dynamic.
