Will Poulter Addresses Adam Warlock’s MCU Future After Guardians 3

Will Poulter addresses his future as Adam Warlock in the MCU after Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. Director James Gunn will wrap up his Marvel Studios sub-franchise with the third installment of the Guardians of the Galaxy films next year. Featuring the return of the series’ core cast led by Chris Pratt’s Star-Lord, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is expected to deal with Rocket Raccoon’s tragic origins, as well as the whereabouts of 2014 Gamora following the events of Avengers: Endgame.

Aside from featuring the primary Guardians of the Galaxy, the threequel will also debut a few new characters to the MCU. That includes Chukwudi Iwuji as the narrative’s primary villain, the High Evolutionary, and Poulter’s Adam Warlock. Unlike the former, however, Poulter’s arrival in the universe had long been rumored due to his involvement in the Infinity Saga comics narrative. Despite being set up in the Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 post-credits scene, Adam Warlock’s MCU introduction won’t be until Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 where he is expected to play an important part in the story.

In a new interview with The Movie Dweeb, Poulter spoke candidly about Warlock’s future in the MCU after his Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 debut. The actor says that he has no idea what’s next for the character beyond his upcoming film, which is all part of Marvel Studios’ penchant for secrecy. Nonetheless, the actor is eager to work with Gunn and the rest of the movie’s cast again should Warlock return. Read Poulter’s full quote below:

“I really hope so dude. I don’t honestly know what the plan is and I mean that is hand on heart you know the truth… Hand on heart don’t know the plan … For all of us in the cast, the first time what we saw what was debuted… the footage that was debuted at Comic-Con, the first time that we saw that was backstage about two minutes before we went on stage and that kind of just exemplifies the level of secrecy around all things relate to Marvel. I didn’t see a script until a couple of weeks before I went on set long after I sort of commenced the role or whatever. So genuinely, secrecy really is quite kind of a big thing with all things Marvel. I don’t know what the plan is but I’d be honored to play Adam Warlock again and I really hope to get that chance. I’m desperate to work with James again. I’m desperate to work with all of my castmates. One of the nicest, most welcoming kind of groups I’ve ever had the pleasure of being in the company of, so I just had my fingers crossed.”

Will Poulter Addresses Adam Warlock’s MCU Future After Guardians 3

As part of Marvel Studios’ San Diego Comic-Con 2022 panel, Gunn debuted official footage for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, providing the first look at the movie. Proving Poulter’s comments about Marvel secrecy, the footage wasn’t released publicly and only shown to its cast briefly, but the description for the clip teases that the threequel is an emotional one to wrap up the trilogy. While Poulter is eager to work with Gunn again, unless the filmmaker locks in another deal with Marvel Studios, he may have to do it outside of the MCU after the Guardians saga comes to an end. Still, it is clear that the actor’s MCU debut was an extremely enjoyable one, regardless of whether GOTG 3 could lead to more appearances by Adam Warlock.

Given the studio’s intense secrecy, it is entirely possible that Poulter is really unsure when and how Warlock will fit in Marvel’ plans for the Multiverse Saga. However, it is also likely that he is well aware of how many projects he has signed on to play the character, giving him an idea of how big of a role he will be have in the franchise beyond Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. In any case, while the MCU’s continued exploration of its cosmic side would make it fairly easy to find new ways to utilize the character moving forward, updates on Adam Warlock’s future will likely remain tightly under wraps for some time.
