Will Pedro Pascal Be In The Mandalorian & Grogu Movie? Here’s Everything We Know About His Star Wars Role

Pedro Pascal, who portrays the titular Mandalorian Din Djarin in Star Wars’ The Mandalorian TV show, is expected to have a starring role in the franchise’s brand-new The Mandalorian & Grogu movie. The actor made his Star Wars debut as Din Djarin in 2019, when both The Mandalorian and the Disney+ streaming platform first launched. Pascal has been a part of the trailblazing Star Wars project following the Mandalorian bounty hunter and his adorable little green accomplice, Grogu (or “Baby Yoda”), ever since the beginning, when it became the first live-action Star Wars TV show.

Now, The Mandalorian is about to make Star Wars history again with The Mandalorian & Grogu movie, giving Pascal the opportunity to be a part of another trailblazing project. There is, however, uncertainty surrounding his involvement, as the leading role in The Mandalorian helped Pascal to become one of the most in-demand actors in Hollywood with an infamously busy schedule. This has caused viewers to wonder whether Pascal will be able to truly reprise his Din Djarin role in the new Star Wars movie. Here’s everything that’s currently known about Pascal’s involvement in The Mandalorian & Grogu.

Everything We Know About The Mandalorian & Grogu Movie

The Mandalorian’s story will continue with a Star Wars movie. Here’s everything we know about the project, including cast, release, and timeline.

Pedro Pascal Has Portrayed Din Djarin Since The Mandalorian’s Debut

As aforementioned, The Mandalorian is nothing new to Pascal. The actor has been a part of the TV show ever since the beginning, when The Mandalorian was nothing but concept art taped to walls. Creator Jon Favreau and executive producer Dave Filoni hand-picked Pascal for the role, offering him the part of Din Djarin after considering his previous roles in projects such as Netflix’s Narcos.

3 seasons of The Mandalorian later, Pascal still continues to hold the leading role in The Mandalorian, alongside his adorable puppet co-star – who Pascal often jokes is a diva. Since the Mandalorian’s face is concealed for the massive majority of the show, Pascal’s face has only been seen three times thus far: once in The Mandalorian season 1 finale and twice in the final two episodes of The Mandalorian season 2. This is what has often called Pascal’s true role in The Mandalorian into question, mainly due to the great deal Star Wars has struck with him.

Pascal’s Role Is Mostly Voiceover – But He’s Been In The Suit Before

Pascal’s scheduling conflicts with The Mandalorian began as early as season 1, when the actor was split between the Star Wars TV show, Wonder Woman 1984, and his Broadway role in King Lear. He was able to make an arrangement with Star Wars that allowed him to make the role mostly voiceover, though this isn’t all Pascal contributes. While he’s evidently been in the suit for his helmet-less scenes, the actor was also extremely present on the set of The Mandalorian season 2, with most of the episodes featuring him underneath Din Djarin’s beskar armor.

When Pascal’s unable to be in the suit, there are prominently two other Din Djarin actors who take on the role: Brendan Wayne and Lateef Crowder, who do the acting and stunts respectively. Actor Barry Lowin has also stepped in when needed, making the role of Din Djarin more collaborative than anything else. Pascal has referred to himself as “third fiddle” to Wayne and Crowder, particularly with Din’s role in The Book of Boba Fett and The Mandalorian season 3, when other projects – HBO’s The Last of Us season 1 for the latter – prevented Pascal from being on set.

Pascal’s Busy Schedule Makes His Star Wars Future A Challenge

Pascal’s voiceover arrangement has helped his self-professed commitment phobia in allowing him to do various projects at once, but those projects have only become both more plentiful and more demanding since The Mandalorian began. The Last of Us season 2 enters production in February 2024, and Pascal will no doubt be required on set. Pascal is also rumored to be playing Reed Richards in the MCU’s Fantastic Four, though this has yet to be confirmed. If true, however, this will extremely limit Pascal’s availability in 2024 – which is also when The Mandalorian & Grogu begins production.

A busy schedule, however, isn’t the only reason why Pascal’s made Din Djarin mostly a voiceover role. The actor has stated before that his involvement on set in The Mandalorian season 2 was his attempt to take on Din’s physicality, which he found to be extremely challenging for him. This arrangement, then, has been more so for the sake of Pascal’s physical wellbeing than anything else, which means he would likely be more than willing to play around with his schedule if it meant bringing Din Djarin to life on the silver screen.

Pedro Pascal Will Likely Be More Involved In The Mandalorian & Grogu Movie

While nothing has been officially confirmed yet, it’s more than likely Pascal will not only be a part of The Mandalorian & Grogu, but that he will take on even more of a role than he has in The Mandalorian TV show. There’s a huge difference between being the lead actor in a Star Wars TV show and a Star Wars movie, and no one would ever pass up the latter opportunity. Pascal has also already celebrated The Mandalorian project, having reposted the announcement on his Instagram story the day it was made.

Pascal has also said before that he wants The Mandalorian to get a movie, even once telling Fandango at the D23 Expo in 2022 that “if [the movie] isn’t a conversation already, then it will be after today.” It seems very likely, then, that Pascal wants to be as much of a part of The Mandalorian & Grogu movie as he can. The actor is already rumored to have dropped out of the movie project Weapons to make room in his schedule for 2024, a report that came after the announcement of this Star Wars movie.

Thus, Pascal is already showing that his involvement in The Mandalorian & Grogu is not only extremely likely, but also may be more than what viewers have been used to in The Mandalorian TV show. While Pascal has achieved massive television success, taking on this starring role in a Star Wars movie would be a perfect and well-deserved chance to achieve success on the silver screen. As Din Djarin and Grogu venture to the movie theater in The Mandalorian & Grogu, then, viewers will likely see Pascal right underneath the Mandalorian’s iconic armor.
