Will John Ambrose Return In To All The Boys 3?

John Ambrose McLaren stole the show (and Lara Jean’s heart) in To All The Boys: P.S. I Still Love You, but will he be returning for To All The Boys 3? The highly-anticipated sequel to Netflix’s original movie To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before was recently released to positive reviews, and a third film in the trilogy has already been greenlit (and completed production). Based on Jenny Han’s novel of the same name, P.S. I Still Love You picked up after the events of To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before, with Lara Jean and Peter having been dating for real in the interim.

However, while Lara Jean is excited by the newness of being in her first-ever relationship, the rose-tinted lens begins to fade when she realizes that Peter has been through everything before. Making things even more complicated was the re-introduction of John Ambrose McLaren (Jordan Fisher), an old crush from Lara Jean’s past. John Ambrose was one of the boys that Lara sent her letters to, and as it turns out, he got it and felt the same way. But even with John’s return, Lara Jean still ended up choosing Peter, leaving fans on team John Ambrose disappointed.

Thankfully, however, that may not be the end for John Ambrose. As fans of the books will know, To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before is a trilogy of novels, which means that a third film is already confirmed to be on the way. Even though John Ambrose was rejected by Lara Jean, that doesn’t mean that he couldn’t make an appearance in the third film – but will it happen? While nobody can know for sure until more final casting details are revealed, John Ambrose does make an appearance in the third novel.

Will John Ambrose Return In To All The Boys 3?

John Ambrose’s role isn’t nearly as big in Always and Forever, Lara Jean as it is in P.S. I Still Love You, considering that he’s no longer a possible love interest for Lara Jean. In the novels, John Ambrose dates a girl named Dipti and eventually is accepted to The College of William & Mary. So, if To All The Boys 3 goes the route of the book, John Ambrose could appear in the third movie, but with a much smaller role than in the second film.

All of that being said, both To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before and P.S. I Still Love You made changes from their book counterparts, so there’s always the possibility that the upcoming sequel could change what happens in the books to give John Ambrose a bigger role. This is entirely possible, considering how popular Jordan Fisher is with fans, as well as the fact that John Ambrose is well-loved, and many fans felt he would have been a better match for Lara Jean in the end than Peter. But in the end, viewers will have to wait until Always and Forever, Lara Jean is released to find out whether or not John Ambrose returns.
