Will & Grace is now confirmed to make its return to the small screen during the Fall 2017 TV season. For many Millennials who grew up in the late 1990s and early ’00s, the popular NBC sitcom was a true milestone when it came to pushing the boundaries of the kinds of interpersonal relationships and characters that a network TV show could depict and explore. Starring Erin McCormack and Debra Messing as best friends Will Truman (a gay lawyer) and Grace Adler (a straight interior designer), the comedy series co-created by Max Mutchnick and David Kohan proved a monumental success with general audiences, over the course of its initial eight season run from 1998 to 2006.
Regarded most famously for being the most successful television series with several featuring gay characters – including Truman as Will and Sean Hayes as Will’s best friend Jack McFarland –Will & Grace has since gone down as a socially significant network sitcom of undying cultural relevance. The Will & Grace revival season was officially ordered by NBC near the beginning of this year, and it turns out the show will makes it return in 2017 too.
As confirmed by Hayes via Twitter, Will & Grace will return to NBC for the Fall 2017 season for a grand total of twelve episodes. In addition to promising fans that Hayes and his fellow cast members are coming back to NBC shortly, the post is also joined by a bit of playful marketing, featuring all four of the program’s iconic series regulars – including Megan Mullalley as Grace’s wily assistant, Karen Walker. Fans of the original eight seasons of Will & Grace are sure to want to tune in for the revival series as it makes its way to NBC later this year, as many are no doubt wondering just what kinds of shenanigans the four main characters have gotten up to since viewers last saw them. As far as generating continued interest in the series is concerned, only time will tell how eager diehard fans and casual viewers alike will be in watching the new slate of episodes when they finally make their way on air.
With recent revival series to look on in comparison – most notably including the Gilmore Girls four-part special event on Netflix in addition to the likes of Fuller House – it would seem that there is significant and continuing interest in reinvigorating old television properties. On that note, here’s to hoping for the very best when Will & Grace makes its way back to NBC.
