Why There’s Still No Miles Morales Live-Action Spider-Man Movie

Why There’s Still No Miles Morales Live-Action Spider-Man Movie

The reason why there is still no live-action Miles Morales Spider-Man movie despite the character’s popularity has been revealed, and it makes a lot of sense. Miles Morales debuted in the pages of Marvel Comics when Peter Parker died in the “Ultimate Spider-Man” series. Since then, the character has made a name for himself throughout different mediums as someone just as worthy of the Spider-Man moniker as Peter Parker. Since 2018, Miles Morales’ popularity has exploded, becoming one of the most popular Marvel heroes, with many begging for a live-action Miles Morales to debut in a Spider-Man film.

2018 was a special year for Miles. In the video game realm, Miles debuted in Insomniac Games’ Marvel’s Spider-Man, with the hero then leading his own game and returning for a sequel to the original, sharing the Spider-Man mantle with Peter Parker. 2018 also saw the release of Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, with the animated movie franchise’s unique visuals, compelling characters, and exciting story making Miles a worldwide phenomenon. That led to a live-action Miles Morales movie being teased by producers as part of the plans for upcoming Spider-Man adaptations. The reason that has not happened yet has been revealed.

Miles Morales’ Live-Action Spider-Man Movie Will Arrive After Two Upcoming Films

Producers Reveal Live-Action Miles Morales Plans

Why There’s Still No Miles Morales Live-Action Spider-Man Movie

Spider-Man franchise producer Amy Pascal revealed that the live-action Miles Morales will only debut after two upcoming movies. As she said that while in the company of the team behind Miles’ animated franchise, it seemed like a possible fourth movie after the announced Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse had just been teased. However, that was not true, as Spider-Verse franchise co-creator Christopher Miller revealed on Twitter that Pascal actually meant the third Spider-Verse movie and Tom Holland’s upcoming Spider-Man 4 in the MCU.

While the two movies that need to premiere before attention is turned to bringing a live-action Miles Morales Spider-Man film to life have been revealed, there is an interesting question that has emerged. Both movies mentioned by Miller — Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse and Holland’s Spider-Man 4 in the MCU — are undated. Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse was originally set to release in 2024; however, the film was indefinitely delayed until it is ready for release. On the other hand, Marvel Studios’ Spider-Man 4 is still in the development stage, with no director, cast, or release date yet revealed.

Why It Is Better To Wait For Miles Morales’ Live-Action Movie

Miles’ Live-Action Debut Is Still A Few Years Away

As the films that need to debut before Miles Morales can have his live-action movie do not have release dates, fans will likely have to wait a few years until they see the Spider-Man that took the world by storm in the animated Spider-Verse franchise come to live-action. While excitement is high for Miles’ live-action debut, it is for the best that the character will still take some time to come to the medium. That way, both Sony and Marvel Studios can take the next step with their franchises and use them to set up Miles Morales’ live-action future naturally.

Miles’ animated journey is still not over, and that needs to be first be tackled with the care it needs before the hero can come to live-action. If Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse delivers on all the twists that Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse set up, the movie could cement the Spider-Verse trilogy as one of the best movie trilogies of all time. Before Miles’ live-action debut, Holland’s Peter Parker must also deal with the more personal story that was set up for Spider-Man 4 by Marvel Studios’ Spider-Man: No Way Home.

Where Could Miles Morales’ Live-Action Debut Happen

Miles’ Live-Action Debut Does Not Have To Happen In A Solo Film

While Miles Morales is set to headline a live-action movie in the future, a solo Spider-Man film does not have to be the place where he makes his live-action debut. Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse already introduced live-action characters and universes to the animated franchise, so it is possible that Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse will feature a scene with Miles, Gwen Stacy, and Peter B. Parker in live-action, potentially teasing the character’s movie future that way. Sony could also have other plans for Miles, perhaps making him the Spider-Man of Sony’s Spider-Man Universe, leaving Holland’s Peter Parker in the MCU.

Like in the Playstation games and the Spider-Verse franchise, seeing Miles interact with Peter Parker in live-action would also be a great choice. Having the character be teased at the end of Holland’s Spider-Man 4, either appearing as a cameo or just being mentioned, could set up Miles’ MCU future. With Holland’s Peter now an experienced Avenger, he could be a mentor to a younger Miles in the MCU, possibly in a Spider-Man 5 or the solo Miles movie. While Miles Morales‘ live-action Spider-Man movie needs to wait for two films, the character’s future is looking amazing.
