Why Teen Mom Fans Are Questioning Cheyenne Floyd’s Storyline

Cheyenne Floyd has been involved in several seasons of Teen Mom over the years; however, fans tuning into MTV’s newest venture, Teen Mom: The Next Chapter, are confused about parts of Cheyenne’s dramatic storyline. Before joining the cast of Teen Mom in 2018, Cheyenne was known for starring in the competition programs Are You The One? and The Challenge. While competing on The Challenge, Cheyenne became pregnant by The Real World alum Cory Wharton and gave birth to their daughter Ryder in April 2017. Four years later, in May 2021, Cheyenne and her fiancé Zach Davis welcomed a son, Ace.

After over a decade of success and high ratings, MTV announced last May that Teen Mom and its sister series, Teen Mom 2, would merge their respective casts to produce Teen Mom: The Next Chapter. While fans found it easy to predict several stars’ future storylines, such as Maci Bookout McKinney, Amber Portwood, and Leah Messer, Cheyenne’s semi-recent social media activity indicated that viewers would see her experience as emotional and terrifying. Upon Teen Mom: The Next Chapter‘s premiere, it was revealed that Cheyenne, Zach, Ryder, and Ace were involved in a broad-daylight shooting. Although no one was injured, Cheyenne and Zach’s car was hit with 13 bullets after Cheyenne noticed a laser being pointed at Zach.

While many Teen Mom fans have sent Cheyenne well-wishes since her family’s scary experience was revealed, some viewers took to the Reddit thread u/Taco_Fairy, to question parts of Cheyenne’s story since the first episode of Teen Mom: The Next Chapter dropped. Despite the event taking place in the overpopulated celebrity-filled city of Los Angeles, users scouring online have been unable to find any news stories, police reports, or any additional coverage of the shooting. Although Cheyenne and Zach explain some parts of the shooting, Redditors still have questions they hope are answered in subsequent episodes, such as who the suspect is. I’m confused why I haven’t heard anything about the shooter being arrested since Chey and Zack know his identity,” one person wrote. Several others expressed confusion over the suspect’s motive and how specific tabloids such as TMZ, which is based in Los Angeles, neglected to report on it.

Additionally, viewers who tuned into Teen Mom: The Next Chapter are equally confused as to when Cheyenne, Zach, and their children were shot and how the event may relate to Cheyenne’s recent hospitalization this summer. Zach, who explains that Ryder had “an appointment at the doctors” while Ace had his “first checkup,” indicates that the shooting took place back in late May to early June 2021. In July, however, Cheyenne revealed that she was in the hospital for an unspecified surgery and hinted that viewers would have to watch Teen Mom: The Next Chapter for more information. Since fans believed that Cheyenne’s hospitalization was related to the shooting once the Teen Mom trailer dropped, some fans are having a hard time understanding whether Cheyenne and Zach’s encounter took place in 2021, shortly after Ace’s birth, or if it occurred in 2022 and Zach simply misspoke.

Despite the lack of details about the incident, longtime viewers of the Teen Mom franchise are happy and relieved that the couple and their children were unscathed, especially since this is the second shooting documented by MTV. Fans of the now-former series may remember that while filming Teen Mom season 9 in 2020, Maci witnessed a gunfight in Tennessee after unsuspectingly stopping at a gas station. With gun violence continuing to rise despite increasingly-high numbers of unnecessary death and destruction, those tuning into Teen Mom: The Next Chapter hope that Cheyenne and Zach stay safe and receive justice while hopefully providing more context of their traumatic event.
