Ryan Coogler and Michael B. Jordan’s new movie is so exciting because of its inspiration. In the initial report of the film’s development from THR, the outlet revealed that the mystery movie is a wholly original idea that Coogler came up with. That is notable because it marks the first of Coogler and Jordan’s movies to not be some sort of adaptation. While Coogler still brought his own ideas and themes to each of their previous collaborations, the notion that this new film is completely original means the story, characters, and world are all his own.
Each of Ryan Coogler and Michael B. Jordan’s four movies they’ve made before have been based on either an existing IP or a true story. They first made Fruitvale Station and depicted the real events leading up to Oscar Grant’s death in a police shooting. Next, they joined the Rocky franchise to make Creed, building off the world Sylvester Stallone created. The pair’s next two movies, Black Panther and Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, then saw them work within the Marvel Cinematic Universe and used inspiration from major Marvel Comics storylines. Now, Coogler and Jordan can do something completely unique.
