Why Ryan Coogler & Michael B Jordan’s New Movie Is Their Most Exciting Ever

Ryan Coogler and Michael B. Jordan are officially teaming up to make another movie, and it is already their most exciting collaboration ever. The director and actor’s careers have been linked for the last decade, dating back to when they first worked together on Fruitvale Station in 2013. The independent movie marked the beginning of a perfect modern actor and director partnership that has since expanded into major movie franchises. After working together on four movies in the span of nine years, Michael B. Jordan and Ryan Coogler’s next movie together has now been confirmed.

Details on Coogler and Jordan’s new movie are fairly sparse at the moment, as the duo have elected to keep the specifics of the project secretive as they are in the process of selling the package to a studio. Even though it is unclear exactly when audiences will get a chance to see the new film, the continued partnership between two of Hollywood’s brightest voices is exciting. There is little expectation that the upcoming movie will be bigger than their collaborations with Creed or Black Panther, but it is already more exciting than both thanks to one specific known detail.

Ryan Coogler and Michael B. Jordan’s new movie is so exciting because of its inspiration. In the initial report of the film’s development from THR, the outlet revealed that the mystery movie is a wholly original idea that Coogler came up with. That is notable because it marks the first of Coogler and Jordan’s movies to not be some sort of adaptation. While Coogler still brought his own ideas and themes to each of their previous collaborations, the notion that this new film is completely original means the story, characters, and world are all his own.

Each of Ryan Coogler and Michael B. Jordan’s four movies they’ve made before have been based on either an existing IP or a true story. They first made Fruitvale Station and depicted the real events leading up to Oscar Grant’s death in a police shooting. Next, they joined the Rocky franchise to make Creed, building off the world Sylvester Stallone created. The pair’s next two movies, Black Panther and Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, then saw them work within the Marvel Cinematic Universe and used inspiration from major Marvel Comics storylines. Now, Coogler and Jordan can do something completely unique.

Ryan Coogler & Michael B. Jordan’s Genre Tease Makes It Even More Exciting

What makes Coogler and Jordan’s new movie all the more noteworthy is the tease that it is a “genre” feature. This is how all the original reports described the movie, but what genre exactly they wanted to tackle remained a mystery outside of notes that it might be a period piece. Rumors have since circulated that it could be a vampire movie (via Jeff Sneider). Regardless of if that rumor proves to be true or false, it would seem that Ryan Coogler and Michael B. Jordan want this new movie to be very different from their previous collaborations.
