Why Married At First Sight Season 15 Fans Are Leaving ‘Team Steve’

While many Married at First Sight fans criticized Noi Phommasak during her season 14 journey, some viewers are now realizing that Steve Moy may have been just as responsible for their breakup. At first, Steve was credited with being the more reasonable and low-key party in their marriage. However, now that the union is officially over, MAFS fans are reflecting on the entire journey.

On Married at First Sight, in the beginning, the couple seemed like frontrunners. Noi and Steve had a very romantic wedding, where they bantered all night. He proudly wore her cultural wedding garments from Laos. Then, they had an equally affectionate honeymoon, with waterfall swims and sunset group dinners. The only cloud in the sky was when Noi said she could be falling for Steve, and his answer was,

“thank you.” While Steve didn’t reciprocate the puppy love at first, back in Boston, Steve ended up reenacting the moment on a beach date, where he told Noi that he loved her.

Over time though, Steve’s freelancing job status and Noi’s noodle boiling skills came under fire. Noi posting that she deserved more from a partner on social media also caused conflict, and led some MAFS fans to believe that she wasn’t mature enough for marriage. Noi and Steve’s red flags started to pile up. Now, Bluemodem is taking a closer look at the relationship. They wrote on Reddit, “In the beginning, I was def more  ‘Team Steve’…but the guy is really not all that. In comparison to Noi…Yes he does communicate better and uses bigger ‘adult’ words…but the guy is pretty average.” Then, they added that they were starting to believe Noi that Steve was trying to come off as a nice guy on camera. His proposal to Noi at the end of season 14 seemed calculated to make him look good.

Redditor Clevsbrown added, “I always felt indifferent to Steve. He’s not the best, but there have been much worse grooms than him. Steve not wanting a job, or at least a full time job, and Noi wanting to be a stay at home parent with 3 kids, that was never going to work. They had physical attraction and some chemistry to get them through decision day, but I never saw them working long term.” This is true for a lot of MAFS couples. The consensus is that there is enough spark to get things rolling, but not enough to lock it down for life.

Bluemodem wasn’t the only MAFS fan who thought that Steve might be playing Noi, but the majority of Reddit users didn’t have strong opinions about him either way. Perfect-Two shared, “I felt he was a nice guy, but he was way too nonchalant when asked questions. Doesn’t make him bad, just a little reserved.” A few Redditors agreed that Steve was one of the better men to pass through MAFS, with the caveat that many men are awful, so this wasn’t saying that much.

Ultimately, neither Steve nor Noi are entirely responsible for their breakup after Married at First Sight, and neither are bad people. Noi could be a little stubborn, and Steve may have been a bit reserved and cautious about how he portrayed himself. It’s sad the couple didn’t last, but that doesn’t mean there was anything truly wrong with them. Everyone has strengths and weaknesses, and Steve and Noi deserve to be happy.

Married at First Sight airs Wednesdays at 8 p.m. EST on Lifetime.
