Why Lee Has THOSE In A Murder At The End Of The World Episode 5: New Twists Explained

Warning! This article contains spoilers for A Murder At The End Of The World.

Darby discovers some suspicious items in Lee Andersen’s purse in A Murder at the End of the World‘s episode 5, leaving viewers with a nagging question: What is Lee trying to do? After learning that Zoomer could be Bill’s son in A Murder at the End of the World‘s episode 4’s ending moments, Darby wastes no time and rushes to Andy Ronson to confront him. However, instead of feeling threatened by Darby’s interrogations, Andy Ronson calmly explains how he has known about Zoomer’s relationship with Bill since the beginning. To Darby’s surprise, he even shows her proof that he could not have been directly involved in Bill’s murder.

While Andy Ronson effectively proves his innocence through the video footage and convinces Darby that he wishes to catch the killer as much as her, one detail in the episode hints that he is hiding something. He encourages Darby to interview all the guests but prevents her from asking Lee Andersen (Brit Marling) about Bill’s murder. When Darby later sneaks into Zoomer’s room and goes through Lee’s purse, she finds two strange items: a fake passport and a wig.

Why Lee Has A Fake Passport & Wig In A Murder At The End Of The World

Brit Marling as Lee Andersen in A Murder at the End of the World

Perhaps one of the most interesting clues in A Murder at the End of the World that could explain why Lee has a fake passport and a wig is in the show’s opening episode. While toasting at the retreat’s premiere, Lee says, “to finding a way out,” which suggests she has an escape plan. This could mean that Andy is keeping her captive at the retreat, which would make sense given how captivity is a recurring theme in several Brit Marling and Zal Batmanglij shows and movies. Why Andy is keeping her captive is yet to be known, but the show’s constant emphasis on environmental issues suggests that Andy might be a little too paranoid about the climate crisis and may have miscalculated the arrival of global disaster.

Lee’s fake passport is Argentinian under the name “Marie Larsen.” Given that David is also Argentinian, he might have helped her acquire it. A Murder at the End of the World also established that Rohan and Bill were planning to do something at the retreat before they were murdered. Could they be helping Lee escape on Rohan’s “Last Chance” boat, and David was involved in their plan? Andy must have figured out their plan and hired someone to kill them before they could leave the retreat with Lee. Or, maybe, Lee is the puppeteer, secretly controlling every move on the chessboard to fulfill her ulterior motives and execute a revenge plan against Andy.

What Lee’s Response To Darby Revealing She Knows About Zoomer Really Means

Emma Corrin as Darby and Brit Marling as Lee Andersen in A Murder at the End of the World

A Murder at the End of the World‘s episode 5 reveals that Andy knows Zoomer is Bill’s biological son. At the same time, it also confirms that Lee had no clue about Zoomer’s relationship with Bill before Darby told her about it. Lee reacts to the revelation by rushing to the bathroom and throwing up, suggesting that she is either scared of Andy or involved in his mysterious plans. If she is afraid of Andy, the revelation about Zoomer being Bill’s son might have terrified her and made her more desperate to leave. On the other hand, if she is working with Andy and somehow responsible for Bill’s death in A Murder at the End of the World, learning about Zoomer’s relationship with Bill might have made her regret her decision to get involved in Bill’s murder.
