Why Justice League’s Ray Fisher Can’t Give Details on Joss Whedon Allegations

Ray Fisher explains why he can’t reveal any more details about his allegations against Joss Whedon while they’re working on Justice League. Cast by Zack Snyder to play Cyborg in the DCEU, the actor first made an appearance in 2016’s Batman V Superman, followed by a bigger role in 2017’s Justice League. That said, the extensive reshoots for the film significantly changed his arc, relegating him into a plot device more than a character.

Earlier this month, Fisher accused Whedon of toxic behavior on the set of Justice League. The former Marvel filmmaker took over the Warner Bros./DC Films project after Snyder had to step away from it due to a personal tragedy. Whedon’s reshoots reportedly had 80 script pages, resulting in the original director’s intended storyline altered. According to the actor, Whedon poorly treated the cast and crew of the movie during his time working on it, calling his demeanor “gross, abusive, unprofessional, and completely unacceptable.” He also named Geoff Johns and Jon Berg in his statement as an enabler of Whedon. Before this bombshell, Fisher denounced his previous statement supporting Whedon as Justice League‘s interim director after Snyder left.

Obviously, fans have questions about these allegations against Whedon on the set of Justice League, so he has been asked about more information and specific details regarding his claims. He has yet to reveal anything more, and when asked by a fan during an Instagram Live session, Fisher explained that the reason why he can’t further talk about it is that he’s still under an NDA. Read his full answer below:

“I am still very much under contract and I am still very much under Non-Disclosure Agreement. So I’ve got to be very careful about what I say and how I say it, otherwise I can get sued into oblivion. So just a disclaimer there. For the folks who were looking for more specifics in the moment right now, I’m sorry that I cannot give them to you in the moment right now. Just gotta make sure all your ducks are laid out in a row so you can go ahead and handle the situation appropriately so you don’t end up being, outside of professionally liable, legally liable for anything that could be litigious or whatever that would be. This will take some time, we will get it done, we will win, and then we’ll be able to move on in the world. That’s it.”

Why Justice League’s Ray Fisher Can’t Give Details on Joss Whedon Allegations

Through all this, Whedon has refused to make any comments regarding Fisher’s allegations. Meanwhile, Berg denies the claims, saying that he and Johns did not enable any unprofessional behavior by the filmmaker as claimed by the actor. Since then, Fisher has also voiced support toward the women who have previously spoken out against Whedon’s treatment of women which includes his ex-wife Kai Cole and Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel star Charisma Carpenter. While Fisher is unable to get into specific details to back up his claims, Kevin Smith recently revealed that according to the people who worked with Whedon on Justice League, there was a fair amount of trashing Snyder on Whedon’s end. It’s unclear if Fisher is referring to this, assuming it did happen, or there are other incidents around his claims.

As Fisher said, he’s still under NDA, and with Snyder’s Justice League set to release on HBO Max next year with him, chances are that the binding agreement won’t be nullified anytime soon. That means that it might take time before he can openly talk about Whedon’s alleged unprofessional behavior on the set of the film. That said, if other people like Smith and the people he has supposedly talked to decide to speak out, then the public can know more about what really happened while Whedon was manning reshoots for the film. In any case, it’s safe to say that this issue isn’t going away anytime soon as people would simply be more interested in getting to the bottom of this controversy.
