Why Is The Deadpool 3 Trailer Hiding Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine?

Why Is The Deadpool 3 Trailer Hiding Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine?

The first trailer for Deadpool & Wolverine has debuted, but Hugh Jackman’s Logan was only briefly shown — and there might be a reasonable explanation behind it. It has been known for quite some time that Jackman will return as Wolverine for the first time since 2017’s Logan in the upcoming Deadpool & Wolverine. Not only was the actor present in an announcement video for Wolverine’s inclusion in the film back in 2022, but he has been a predominant part of the promotion for Deadpool & Wolverine‘s exciting plot.

Deadpool & Wolverine set photos and videos have also featured a lot of Jackman’s Wolverine, showing him finally wearing the character’s yellow and blue X-Men costume from the comics, fighting Reynolds’ Deadpool, and more. Despite all the coverage of Jackman’s Wolverine return as part of the MCU for the first time, his Marvel mutant was barely shown in Deadpool & Wolverine‘s first trailer. While it is only the movie’s teaser trailer, there could be a bigger reason behind Jackman’s little time in the Deadpool & Wolverine trailer.

Marvel May Have Learned Its Lesson With Trailer Spoilers

The MCU Has Revealed Cameos In Trailers

Marvel Studios could be hiding Jackman’s Wolverine as much as it can in order to correct an issue of past MCU releases. While Marvel has been known to include fake scenes and edit sequences that appear in trailers to preserve surprises, the MCU has also spoiled some big moments and character appearances in trailers. 2022’s Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is a major case of that. Also part of the Multiverse Saga, the Doctor Strange sequel introduced a new superhero team from another universe — the Illuminati.

While the Illuminati’s lineup had been long rumored before Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness was released, the movie’s trailers spoiled Patrick Stewart’s return as the X-Men’s Charles Xavier and more. Spider-Man: No Way Home‘s trailers also revealed multiple returning Spider-Man movie villains before release, with other MCU movies following suit. While Jackman has appeared in several Deadpool & Wolverine set leaks, there are hundreds of thousands — if not millions — of fans unaware of those, and keeping him as a tease in the trailer preserves surprises.

Patch's Tuxedo Look in Deadpool & Wolverine Trailer

Another reason for Jackman’s role being brief in the Deadpool & Wolverine trailer could be to hide which Wolverine he is playing. It has not been confirmed if Jackman’s Wolverine will come from the original X-Men movie timeline, the Logan film, the MCU, a live-action version of X-Men: The Animated Series‘ Wolverine, or something else entirely. By keeping Wolverine a tease in the trailer, Marvel prolongs the suspense. Besides, the Deadpool & Wolverine trailer might have included the Wolverine variant “Patch”, which has started plenty of speculation without revealing more of Jackman’s Logan in Deadpool & Wolverine for now.
