Heidi D’Amelio has found herself in the Dancing With The Stars bottom two twice so far this season. Despite being in the bottom two on two occasions, she and her pro partner Artem Chigvintsev have been saved from elimination by the judges. The duo has also placed quite high on the leaderboard. So why have they found themselves on the brink of elimination?
During DWTS season 31’s Halloween Night, Heidi and Artem performed a tango to “I WANNA BE YOUR SLAVE” by Måneskin. Their spooky performance earned them a score of 37 out of 40 from the judges. Judge Derek Hough even called it Heidi’s “best performance” this season. Later that night, Heidi and Artem were a part of Vinny Guadagnino’s team for the group dances, where the group earned a score of 33 out of 40.

Halloween Night was the second time this season that the judges chose to save Heidi from elimination. Despite earning high scores, Heidi has not progressed as much as some of her fellow stars. While her technique is nearly perfect, judge Carrie Ann Inaba, who was booed by Emma Slater, a pro dancer on DWTS, has noted that there is still something missing from Heidi’s performances each week.
Ultimately, Heidi’s high scores are a result of the precision and perfection within her technique; however, she falls into the bottom two due to the lack of connection and emotion in her performances. In addition to this, Heidi may not be earning as many fan votes as some of the other stars that have yet to be in the bottom two. The fan votes have a major impact on their success in the competition. For example, some DWTS contestants continue to earn low scores for their performances, such as Vinny Guadagnino, who hasn’t been in the bottom 2 and remains safe each week thanks to his fanbase and the votes they provide him.
The judges definitely have faith that Heidi can break out of her shell and truly master her performances. On the other hand, if she finds herself in the bottom two yet again, they may not be as willing to save her for the third time. With the Dancing With The Stars semi-finals quickly approaching, Heidi will have to impress the judges while also encouraging fans to vote for her to ensure her safety.
