Why GTA 6’s Vice City Setting Wouldn’t Be Rockstar’s Best Choice

Why GTA 6’s Vice City Setting Wouldn’t Be Rockstar’s Best Choice

The Grand Theft Auto fanbase is convinced that GTA 6 will take place in Vice City, but if this holds true then Rockstar Games will have missed out on an important opportunity. With most fans expecting a game set in Vice City, actually giving them that takes away LOTS of surprise and mystery, which is why choosing a completely new city could potentially be in the best interest of the Grand Theft Auto franchise.

For months, alleged leaks have claimed to know the setting and period of the highly anticipated GTA game. Some rumors have suggested that the game will take place mainly in Vice City, with a few missions set in a fictional South American city inspired by Rio de Janeiro. Similarly, it’s also been rumored that GTA 6 will be a set in the ‘70s and ‘80s.

As of right now, all of these details about GTA 6 remain unconfirmed. Not only is the official setting and location of the game a mystery, but it hasn’t even been confirmed by Rockstar when and if Grand Theft Auto 6 is happening. This means there is still a sliver of hope that the game could be set somewhere other than Vice City, and especially with all of the rumors circulating around the internet, a new city could do the franchise wonders.

Rockstar Should Surprise GTA Fans With A New City

Why GTA 6’s Vice City Setting Wouldn’t Be Rockstar’s Best Choice

GTA often sticks to a trifecta of fictional cities based on real-life American counterparts — Los Santos (Los Angeles), Liberty City (New York), and Vice City (Miami). The last time the franchise visited Vice City was in Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories in 2006, and given the fact that the graphics and gameplay will be much smoother in a new installment made for next-gen consoles, it may seem like the perfect opportunity to give Vice City a facelift. The problem isn’t that Vice City has been too overdone (which would be a valid argument). The main issue is that the fanbase has already been convinced GTA 6 in Vice City is happening, making its selection too predictable.

People are undoubtedly excited for the release of GTA 6, even though it’s likely still years away. But as time passes, and fans get more used to the idea of Vice City, it will hurt the anticipation for the game. Crucial details have allegedly already been leaked to the public, thereby reducing excitement and opening up the game to criticism before its even been officially confirmed to be in the works, if they are indeed true. If Rockstar were to go with a completely new city outside of their usual trifecta — like a big name such as Chicago or Boston, or even outside of the United States altogether — it would really shake things up and get people talking.

Of course, assuming Grand Theft Auto 6 is already in development, it would be near-impossible to change the setting at this point. But there’s good reason for Rockstar to go with a different city for Grand Theft Auto 6, and for all players know, the rumors about the game’s location being Vice City could be a clever way to distract fans from the truth. This way, they will get a true surprise once it is announced Grand Theft Auto 6 is taking place somewhere new.
