Why Grand Theft Auto Fans Think A GTA 6 Trailer Reveal Is Coming

Why Grand Theft Auto Fans Think A GTA 6 Trailer Reveal Is Coming

It’s been almost eight years since Grand Theft Auto 5 launched, and fan demand for news about Grand Theft Auto 6 keeps growing. When it comes to blockbuster video game franchises like the Grand Theft Auto series, the longer fans have to wait between titles, the more they tend to speculate – especially when the publisher is typically tight-lipped about the details, like Rockstar Games is. The wait for GTA 6 has been so long that even the game’s supposed upcoming teaser-trailer is the subject of wild rumors and speculation. While nothing is confirmed, some have read between the lines and believe the trailer is just around the corner.

Rumors about Grand Theft Auto 6‘s trailer have spread online for years, but the speculation has ramped up in the past year alone. Before Super Bowl LIV in February 2020, a rumor from Reddit had many convinced that Rockstar would tease GTA 6 during the game. In September 2020, eagle-eyed fans spotted the words “GTA 6 Trailer” in The Weeknd’s “Blinding Lights” music video. But it turned out that the text displayed in “Blinding Lights” all came from user comments on an earlier YouTube video.

But the latest rumor is a bit more grounded in fact. Recently, a job listing on the company’s website indicated that Rockstar might be hiring for the GTA 6 trailer. The posting doesn’t specify what the project is for, and it’s important to note that the job could be for another Rockstar project, but it’s the strongest indication yet that a Grand Theft Auto 6 trailer could be dropping soon.

Rockstar Might Be Putting The GTA 6 Trailer Team Together

Why Grand Theft Auto Fans Think A GTA 6 Trailer Reveal Is Coming

The Rockstar job posting is for the role of “Cinematic Gameplay Capture Artist.” The job will involve using Rockstar’s internal video capturing tools to gather both gameplay and cinematic footage, which they will then provide to Rockstar’s video editing and trailer teams for use in TV and online campaigns. So the job is essentially acting as a “camera person” for commercials selling Rockstar’s upcoming games. The job posting emphasizes that the Cinematic Gameplay Capture Artist will exclusively use in-game footage, which would seem to indicate that whichever game they will be working on is close to completion.

Of course, the job posting doesn’t mention Grand Theft Auto 6 or any specific games. It does say the new employee will be working “on a range of projects.” That could include Grand Theft Auto 6. But it could just as easily refer to the GTA 5 next-gen port, which will be coming to PS5 and Xbox Series X/S later this year. Or, it could be one of the many other Rockstar games in development.

It’s also worth noting that Rockstar has said GTA 6 isn’t coming soon, which it’s repeated many, many times. The company isn’t in a rush to shelve GTA 5 or its expansion GTA Online either, as GTA Online set a record for active players in 2020. There’s little hard evidence to suggest a reveal trailer is right around the corner, but after almost eight years of waiting for Grand Theft Auto 6, some fans will try to connect the dots any way they can.
