Why Genshin Impact On Switch May Be Waiting For The Switch Pro

Why Genshin Impact On Switch May Be Waiting For The Switch Pro

Before launch, Genshin Impact was announced for the Nintendo Switch. Since then, the game has appeared on PS5 and the Epic Games Store, but developer miHoYo has kept quiet about when exactly the Switch port will be arriving. However, after the latest Switch Pro rumors, it certainly seems possible the company is waiting to unveil the free-to-play RPG until after Nintendo officially announces its new console.

Because miHoYo has remained so silent on Genshin Impact‘s Switch port, some fans have speculated the project was cancelled. Rumors of hardware issues and eShop regulations for Genshin Impact and its microtransactions were other possible reasons the game was delayed on Switch. So far, neither miHoYo nor Nintendo has confirmed what’s taking so long, but a Switch version of the game is hopefully on the horizon.

Now, it seems highly likely miHoYo may be waiting to show off Genshin Impact on Switch until after Nintendo’s upgraded console, presumably called the Switch Pro, is officially announced. The latest rumors suggest the Switch Pro will be shown off before E3 this year, allowing developers at the expo to show off their projects running on Nintendo’s newest hardware. It seems likely that this may be what’s held up miHoYo’s Switch port of Genshin Impact thus far.

Genshin Impact launched on the PS4 last year, and not long after, assured fans that a PS5 upgrade was in the works. A little more than six months after its initial launch, Genshin Impact arrived on PS5. However, this essentially meant miHoYo had to work on two separate projects for PlayStation consoles. It may be trying to avoid this with Nintendo by waiting for the Switch Pro.

Like the PS5 version of Genshin Impact, a Switch Pro port would theoretically have higher frame rates, 4K resolution, and other performance improvements. So, it’s possible instead of getting a Switch version out, and then delaying a Switch Pro port, miHoYo is simply waiting to release Genshin Impact on Nintendo consoles at the same time. This way, current Switch owners can enjoy the game while new Switch Pro users will have access to an upgraded version.

Of course, none of this has been officially confirmed by miHoYo or Nintendo. Given the latest Switch Pro rumors, though, and because Genshin Impact has already been announced for Switch, it seems highly likely the RPG will debut after the Switch Pro console is unveiled to the public.
