Why David Tennant Is The Best Doctor Who Explained By Fifteenth Doctor Actor Ncuti Gate

Fifteenth Doctor actor Ncuti Gatwa opens up about why David Tennant stands out as his favorite actor to take on the role of the Time Lord ahead of the actor’s debut in Doctor Who‘s final 60th-anniversary special. Over 10 years since he last appeared on-screen as the Tenth Doctor, Tennant returned to the sci-fi show to lead its milestone celebrations as a cryptic, all-new fourteenth incarnation of the Time Lord. Tennant’s final special will see him face 1960s villain the Toymaker (Neil Patrick Harris).

Ahead of his debut in Doctor Who‘s final 60th-anniversary special “The Giggle”, Gatwa opened up about his feelings towards his predecessor to The Guardian. The actor stated he’d grown up watching Tennant’s Doctor, and his charismatic portrayal and “Scottish feral-ness” helped endear Tennant to Gatwa. Check out Gatwa’s full explanation below:

It feels like it’s come full circle – because David was my Doctor and such a great inspiration to me as an actor. I would have been 13 – a pivotal time. And firstly, he’s Scottish. Plus he was so charismatic and fun. I mean all the Doctors have been fun, all the way back. Well, I don’t know if you can say that about William Hartnell. Maybe he wasn’t fun. But David had such a Scottish almost feral-ness to him, which is what I liked. I felt an affinity to that. So for him, of all people, to be handing the baton over – it just feels really surreal.
