Why An N1 Starfighter Doesn’t Make Sense As A Bounty Hunter’s Ship

Din Djarin acquires a new ship, an N1 Starfighter, to replace the Razor Crest in The Book of Boba Fett, but his new vessel doesn’t make sense as a bounty hunter’s ship. N1 Starfighters are iconic fighter craft from Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace, with the Royal Naboo Security Forces using them to combat the Trade Federation’s army during the Invasion of Naboo. While the N1 Starfighter is a fast and powerful craft with plenty of resonance among Star Wars fans, it’s a poor fit for Djarin’s bounty hunter vocation.

Djarin’s original craft, the Razor Crest, was an ST-70 Assault Ship and was originally a military patrol gunship from before the rise of the Galactic Empire. The Razor Crest served Din Djarin well, being used as both his home and his bounty hunting vessel, proving to be a highly capable ship in combat as well. The Razor Crest was, unfortunately, destroyed in The Mandalorian season 2 when a volley of blaster cannon fire from Moff Gideon’s light cruiser bombarded it.

In The Book of Boba Fett “Chapter 5: Return of the Mandalorian,” Djarin takes a lead role, traveling to Tatooine from Glavis through a commercial flight before building and acquiring his customized N1 Starfighter from Peli Motto. The starfighter is fast and maneuverable, but it lacks most of the amenities that the Razor Crest included, such as cargo space and living quarters. These were necessities for Djarin, given his vocation, making his new N1 a poor fit for transporting living bounties and serving as a home.

Why An N1 Starfighter Doesn’t Make Sense As A Bounty Hunter’s Ship

In the first episode of The Mandalorian, Din Djarin captures a Mythrol bounty alive, freezing him in carbonite and storing him in the Razor Crest’s cargo hold. Djarin also kept a sizable armory aboard the Razor Crest, allowing him to tailor his arsenal for his bounty hunting missions. Given the long-distance travel that his career often necessitated, the Razor Crest’s living quarters were also invaluable to Djarin, who would often find himself in deep space or hostile environments.

Djarin’s newly modified N1 Starfighter demonstrated its remarkable speed when evading New Republic X-Wing fighters, but the ship won’t be an efficient vessel for a bounty hunter. An N1 Starfighter doesn’t have nearly the same cargo capacity as the Razor Crest and won’t be able to transport living bounties. In addition to his N1 lacking room for passengers, it’s difficult to imagine how Djarin will transport prisoners in a single-seat starfighter.

N1 Starfighters, modified or not, are demonstrably effective fighter craft, giving the volunteer security forces of Naboo the right mixture of speed and firepower to keep up with the Trade Federation’s swarms of Vulture Droids and the Empire’s TIE Fighters decades later, but they’re simply not the right type of craft for a bounty hunter. Boba Fett, Dengar, Bossk, and all other effective mercenaries use vessels that allow them to transport passengers, cargo, and prisoners across the galaxy. Din Djarin’s Razor Crest suited his vocation in The Mandalorian and he should have acquired a more fitting ship for his career in The Book of Boba Fett.
