Why A Quiet Place 2 Has No New Release Date

Why A Quiet Place 2 Has No New Release Date

Though originally slated for release on March 20, 2020, A Quiet Place 2 has been postponed indefinitely due to rising concerns surrounding the spread of COVID-19, and hasn’t been given a new release date.

Director John Krasinski confirmed what fans were already starting to wonder: A Quiet Place 2 joined the list of new movie releases that were delayed due to the spread of coronavirus and concerns about large gatherings in a global setting. While arguably one of the most highly-anticipated horror movies of the year, this news doesn’t come as a shock, especially considering the waves of cancellations that have been happening over the past few weeks. Earlier in the month, No Time To Die was pushed back to a November release date instead of April. Another major movie, Fast & Furious 9 was delayed until April 2021.

While the majority of the delayed films have been given some kind of a release date, A Quiet Place 2 has not yet announced updates to its schedule. With this being a last-minute cancellation, it’s possible Paramount Pictures will try to get it back onto the schedule sooner rather than later, but that might not be easy.

Why A Quiet Place 2 Hasn’t Been Given A New Release Date

Why A Quiet Place 2 Has No New Release Date

2020 is a big year for movies, and is packed with major releases. Since many of these have been rescheduled, or even needed to spill over into the 2021 release schedule, it very likely means that future release dates are booked solid, and there might not be that many left. With the spread of coronavirus being so unpredictable, leaving many to err on the side of caution, particularly in industries that promote the gathering of large crowds, such as movie releases and premieres, it’s important not to be too hasty. Even if there was an opening in June 2020, it’s possible Paramount Pictures might not take it because, potentially, the virus won’t be dealt with by then, and could even be more dangerous at that stage.

Movies aren’t the only thing being cancelled; major film festivals such as SXSW, live sporting events, and various comic conventions have been pulled for the public’s safety. A Quiet Place 2 was in the early rounds of films being postponed and delayed, so this could be a good sign if the major issue barring them from announcing a new release date is scheduling availability. As these delay announcements continue, it’s possible more 2020 movies will get bumped to 2021 release dates, so Krasinski and Paramount Pictures are likely trying to make the call early so they can hopefully get a spot later in the year, similarly to what was done with No Time To Die. Regardless, it seems for now fans of A Quiet Place 2 will have to wait a little longer.
