Who Texted Wednesday? We Think It’s This Missing Character

Warning: The following contains SPOILERS for the Wednesday season 1 finale.A new theory regarding who texted Wednesday Addams in the finale of Wednesday season 1 suggests it might have been Xavier’s father, Victor Thorpe. Reportedly a world-famous psychic, Victor Thorpe, was an unseen presence throughout Wednesday season 1. It’s possible he might make his first on-screen appearance as the chief villain of Wednesday season 2 and that the threatening text is the opening salvo of his campaign against her.

The relationship between Xavier Thorpe and Wednesday Addams throughout Wednesday season 1 was strained, with Xavier having an unrequited crush on the girl who once saved his life and later had him unjustly imprisoned. However, Xavier showed Wednesday there were no hard feelings at the end of Wednesday season 1 when he gave her a cellular phone with his number already programmed in. This created a new mystery for Wednesday season 2, as she received a threatening text while leaving the school grounds. There are several reasons to suspect the unseen Victor Thorpe might be responsible.

Xavier’s Father Needs To Appear In Wednesday Season 2

Who Texted Wednesday? We Think It’s This Missing Character

Victor Thorpe was conspicuously absent from Wednesday, season 1. He was first mentioned by name in Wednesday season 1, episode 3, “Friend or Woe,” when Wednesday discussed her psychic powers with Xavier. He was able to offer her some advice, given that his father was a world-famous psychic. Wednesday was familiar with Victor Thorpe, saying that her brother had watched his Vegas Special “so many times I’m surprised it’s not imprinted on his eyeballs.”

Wednesday implied that Victor Thorpe’s relationship with Xavier was not the best. Unlike most of the parents of the supporting cast of characters in Wednesday, Victor Thorpe did not attend Nevermore’s Parents Weekend in Wednesday season 1, episode 5, “You Reap What You Woe.” It was suggested that Victor Thorpe was pressuring Xavier to follow in his footsteps, as Xavier was said to have “a darker side most people don’t see.” This, coupled with Xavier’s claim that his father saw his mental health treatment as “a PR problem that he needs to manage,” paints a picture of a father more concerned with his image than his son’s well-being,

Why Xavier’s Father Might Have Texted Wednesday

What little is known about Victor Thorpe based on Wednesday season 1 suggests he might have developed a grudge against Wednesday Addams and could be her stalker in Wednesday season 2. Xavier was arrested on suspicion of being a murderous monster, based on evidence gathered by Wednesday. Even though all the charges against Xavier were dropped, that might have been enough to earn Victor Thorpe’s enmity, given his reported fear that his emotionally troubled son might wind up in the tabloids.

Victor Thorpe is also one of the few characters who might have access to Wednesday’s new phone number and the means to keep his identity hidden. Thorpe was shown to stay in touch with Xavier by text, suggesting he is tech-savvy as well as psychic. It’s also possible that the phone Xavier bought Wednesday is on his family’s plan, granting Victor access to the girl who nearly ruined his son’s life and forced him to face the scandal he’d always dreaded.

Victor Thorpe Could Be A Powerful New Villain For Wednesday

The secret of Wednesday’s stalker stands poised to be one of the biggest questions of Wednesday season 2, but the show will also require a new villain to drive the story. Victor Thorpe could easily be such a villain, having the means, motive and opportunity to make Wednesday’s life difficult as revenge for exposing his son’s history of mental health problems to the media. Beyond being famous, Thorpe has the wealth to rival that of the Addams Family. In addition, his psychic powers could make him a formidable foe on a mystic level, given that Wednesday is still mastering her abilities and doesn’t have the benefit of Goody Addams’ guidance anymore.

Thorpe could also easily be part of the larger group behind Laurel Gates that is trying to destroy Nevermore Academy, if not its mastermind. This conspiracy could be tied into the Nightshades secret society and the mystery of why their group was forced to disband 30 years earlier after the death of a normal child. If Victor Thorpe is connected to this group, it could explain how Laurel Gates could access the Nightshades’ library and the source of her insider knowledge about the school. In any case, Thorpe should be a significant character in Wednesday season 2, whether as a grand villain or a petty annoyance.
