Who is Nadiya Hussain from Netflix’s Nadiya’s Time To Eat

Netflix finally has it’s own Rachael Ray with the new hit cooking show Nadiya’s Time To Eat. In the show, Nadiya Hussain consults people all around Britain to give advice on how to create tasty yet efficient new meals.

Whether it be travelling to a home full of kids or picking mushrooms with workers in a mushroom plant, Nadiya feels free to offer just about anyone her services to ease the stress of cooking for the common man. With her bubbly personality and heartwarming facial expressions, she proves to be the perfect host to apply her culinary consulting services. But many are wondering where did this charismatic star arise from?

Well, Nadiya’s story is more polarizing than her appealing concoctions. She grew up in the U.K. to a Bangladeshi family that owns an Indian food restaurant. Nadiya didn’t have it easy as a child. When she was a teenager, she underwent cognitive therapy to relieve her of suffering from panic disorder. But she didn’t let this phase her. Amazingly, Nadiya picked up her cooking skills from dusty old cookbooks and diligent practice watching YouTube videos. She’s since went from watching YouTube to baking for Queen Elizabeth’s 90th birthday party.

Nadiya initially rose to fame by winning the sixth series of The Great British Bake Off in 2015. This victory propelled her to stardom and shortly after she signed multiple contracts with BBC to feature in shows like Nadiya’s British Food Adventure or Nadiya’s Family Favorites. But her skills don’t end there.

Nadiya is also a columnist for The Times Magazine where she writes a monthly column as part of it’s Saturday supplement. She also has signed a deal with Penguin House and has written children’s books, cookbooks and novels. The 2016 Nielsen chart Top 100 Food and Drink books which ranks books by sales had Nadiya’s cookbooks ranked third and fourth respectively on the list. Her novel The Secret Lives of the Amir Sisters has been described as a British Muslim rendition of Little Women.

Nadiya is championed as a hero to the Muslim community in Great Britain. British government author Ted Cantle describes her as having done “more for British-Muslim relations than 10 years of government policy.” She also is an ambassador for the Starlight Children’s Foundation which supports lives of children with serious illnesses. Furthermore, she is a WaterAid ambassador, which champions providing clean water to underdeveloped areas in need. Needless to say, Nadiya is definitely a complex individual but one to be respected and cherished as one of Britain’s finest new stars. Check out her new show on Netflix, which features tasty new ideas for quick home fix meals.
