Ryan Gosling’s lead role in The Fall Guy is a celebration of stunt performers across Hollywood, and features several different stunt doubles for the star. In the film, Gosling plays Colt Seavers, a down-to-earth stunt double who becomes embroiled in a mystery while trying to reinvigorate his romance with his former flame Jodie on the set of her big directorial break. Throughout the film, Colt’s endurance and skills keep him just barely ahead of the dangerous circumstances he ends up in. The film is purposefully stunt-heavy, throwing Gosling’s Colt into all sorts of fights, chases, and escapes.

While Gosling does perform some of his own stunts in the film, the actor has also been very vocal about championing the stunt team he worked with. As reported by AP News, Gosling said at the SXSW premiere of The Fall Guy he had five different stunt doubles during the film’s production (although David Leitch claims there were four stunt doubles for the actor). Gosling’s appreciation for stunt performers has been front and center during the release of The Fall Guy, with Gosling actively campaigning for a Stunt Performance Oscar during the press tour for the film.

Notably, The Fall Guy featured a large crew of stunt performers in front of and behind the camera. David Leitch famously began his career as a stunt double for actors like Brad Pitt before shifting into direction. Leitch’s longtime friend/fellow stunt veteran Chris O’Hara worked behind the scenes as The Fall Guy‘s Stunt Coordinator and Second Unit Director. O’Hara is also formally the first person to be credited as a Stunt Designer, a change approved by the Director and Screen Actors Guilds.

Alongside other Stunt Coordinators like Keir Beck, and Samantha Beattie, as well as Assistant Stunt Coordinators Can Aydin, Micah Moore, and Leo Stripp, the film’s credits include dozens of other stunt performers. The film even lets the stunt team get in on the action on-screen, with the stunt team for the in-universe film Metalstorm taking part in the final fight against the film’s villains. The Fall Guy is a love letter to the stunt community in Hollywood and is one of the industry’s best celebrations of the contributions that stunt teams bring to the silver screen.
