Which Comedy Movies on Amazon Should You Watch, Based On Your Chinese Zodiac?

Comedy is about discovering the true nature of an idea or a philosophy without the rambling that often comes along with it. In that sense, it is as important to laugh at oneself as it is to find humor in the world, at large. It is easy enough to find shows and videos that make us laugh, but a comedy movie brings with it a deeper understanding of how life could be, instead of stressing out about what life is.

On that note, this article makes it considerably simpler for you to sit back, relax and enjoy some of the best comedy movies ever made. Below is a list of movies that can be easily accessed on Amazon Prime, each of them paired with a sign of the Chinese Zodiac that they are best suited to. Please note that all the films listed below may not be available for free.

Rat – The Big Sick (2017)

In The Big Sick, Kumail, a Pakistani-American comedian, finds love in the most unlikely place — the arms of a generous and compassionate woman, who also happens to be white.

Rats will comprehend the difficulties faced by Kumail, in terms of his parents’ conservative thoughts, as they are vehement that he settles down with a Muslim woman. Kumail himself is similar to people born under the sign of the Rat, as he fights tooth and nail for the woman he loves.

Ox – Legally Blonde (2001)

A traditional Ox may not like Elle Woods, a beautiful girl who only wants one thing in life: a marriage to the boy she loves. However, Elle is rejected for being “too blonde”. To prove herself, she follows her man into Harvard, where she takes up law, so she could impress him with her smarts.

As Legally Blonde goes on, her Ox nature begins to manifest, as she shows herself to be a powerhouse in her own right — finally able to reveal the full force of her abilities with the guidance of the best legal minds in the country.

Tiger – Logan Lucky (2017)

Tigers will relate to the scrappy trio of siblings, Jimmy, Clyde and Mellie Logan, as they concoct a genius, yet precarious, plan to steal from the Charlotte Motor Speedway on their busiest day: the NASCAR race.

Those who embody the Tiger will love the elaborate improvisations these siblings have to create to ensure that the ruthless FBI agent dogging them is thrown off track. One of the funniest heist movies in recent times, Logan Lucky is about the stubbornness of people who have nothing left to lose and everything to gain.

Rabbit – Roman Holiday (1953)

Princess Ann escapes her guardians while visiting Rome to have a night out on the town, away from the constant responsibilities and pressures that she is exposed to, given her position. Rabbits will adore her elegant, but timid demeanor, seeing their own traits in her.

Ann meets an American newsman, Joe Bradley, who initially wants her to promote his own career — until he starts falling in love with her. Princess Ann bears several similarities with the Rabbit: in her openness, empathy, and in the end, responsibility towards her own role in life.

Dragon – Moonstruck (1987)

Moonstruck was the movie that gave Cher a well-deserved Academy Award for Best Actress. Loretta, who plays a woman engaged to naive Johnny, discovers that she is falling in love with his brother, Ronny.

Dragons will appreciate Loretta’s confidence in her own abilities, refusing to accept anything or anyone she deems substandard. This movie contains one of the most iconic lines (accompanied by the sassiest of slaps) to occur on the silver screen, as Ronny begs Loretta to accept his proposal: “Snap out of it!”

Snake – Airplane! (1980)

Airplane movie

Snakes are intelligent people, but choose to keep their thoughts private. Airplane! is the best movie for them loosen up a little and laugh at some silly antics and groan at equally silly one-liners.

This film is a cult classic, basically recreating the foundations of comedy to what it is today. As a spoof of disaster cinema, it is a series of events that take place on an airplane, in which both crew and passengers are laid flat by a strange stomach bug making the rounds — forcing an alcoholic pilot to team up with his ex and land the plane safely.

Horse – The Birdcage (1996)

Armand and Albert sitting together on a bench

The Birdcage is the English language remake of the rib-splitting French comedy, La Cage Aux Folles. Horses will identify with the immeasurable stamina of Albert, the star of a Miami drag club named after the movie.

Albert exhibits several Horse-like qualities, such as his need to be the center of attention, and collapsing into dramatic tears when he experiences the slightest mishap. It gets worse when Armand’s son, Val, wants to marry the daughter of a highly conservative senator — as they struggle to prove that they are a traditional family.

Goat – Annie Hall (1977)

Goats will relate deeply with the titular character, Annie Hall, a bar performer — with both her delicate and mild nature, as well as her inner strength, which only emerges when it needs to. The story is about the relationship between Annie and Alvy Singer and is narrated by Alvy during one of his comedy night stand-up events.

Goats will also love how the pair juggled their splintering relationship with their careers, but still managed to find each other at the end.

Monkey – Clue (1985)

Clue is the movie version of the eternally popular board game of the same name. It follows the story of a murder victim, slowly unraveling the plot through a series of comical sequences and bizarre characters.

Monkeys, being instinctively mischievous, will admire the brilliance of the mystery, as much as the creative backstories of each character. Each of them is a suspect in the killing and must put their heads together and identify the murderer and prove their own innocence.

Rooster – Evolution (2001)

Evolution is a wacky comedy, but however unrealistic it may seem, the climax of the film will still leave you stunned. A meteor that falls in the Arizona desert is found to have life on it very similar to that on Earth — except that its alien biology results in a much faster evolution time.

This movie is ideal for Roosters, given the authentic nature of the main characters, as they run around trying to find a solution before the planet is taken over. Roosters will especially like the character of Wayne Grey, a failed fireman with a brash (and slightly self-centered) approach to life: but is nevertheless integral to the plot of the film.

Dog – Bridget Jones Diary (2001)

Bridget Jones at her desk in Bridget Jones' Diary

Dogs will empathize with Bridget, a woman who decides that enough is enough and starts making a plan to become a better person in Bridget Jones Diary. She is incredibly friendly and sincere, often noting down her thoughts on a variety of topics in her diary, each of which has had an impact on her life.

Bridget also displays a few negative Dog traits, such as her descent into doubt each time her worldview is questioned, reacting with unkind words and harsh statements — although she is very open to apologizing for her mistakes (when the time is right.)

Pig – Some Like It Hot (1959)

Musicians performing in Some Like It Hot

Some Like It Hot cemented Marilyn Monroe as one of the funniest comedians of her time, even though she, unfortunately, rarely got the credit for her brilliant acting. Pigs will identify with the considerate, hard-working characters in the movie: the brass musicians, Joe and Jerry, and the scintillating singer, Sugar Kane.

The film follows these three across the country, as Joe and Jerry try to hide from the Mafia by pretending to be women and accompanying a women-only band.
