Which Addams Family Character Are You, Based On Your Zodiac?

The Addams Family has been a mainstay of the bizarre narrative since the early sixties, but they actually originated in a comic strip in The New Yorker, starting in 1938. They are generally considered to be one of the most well-known fictional families of all time, having had multiple TV shows, cartoons, films, books, video games, and even a 2007 musical.

The characters are brilliantly designed, being a parody of the classic 1900s household — a rich family whose predilection for the bizarre is outshone only by their total lack of appreciation for the fact that their neighbors and pretty much everyone else thinks of them as absolute oddballs. Thus, categorizing them by their probable Zodiac signs would be quite an interesting idea.

Aries – Norman Normanmeyer

Which Addams Family Character Are You, Based On Your Zodiac?

For all his faults (and there are way too many of them to count), the Addams’ busybody neighbor, Norman Normanmeyer, embodies the Aries sign.

Even when faced with the bleakness of his situation, for instance whenever his schemes to uncover the “evil deeds” he believes his enemies are committing fail, he just goes back to the drawing board with a staunch tenacity. On the other hand, the whole family is so boring that all their names are just different variants of “normal”.

Taurus – Gomez

Gomez Addams

Gomez’s Taurian traits have been evident from childhood, having picked up the highly dangerous arts of knife-throwing and juggling, but he does have a slightly mischievous attitude that works in his favor.

To be fair, though, his radiant persona is a direct result of his beloved coming into his life, as his early days were apparently spent in and out of illnesses. As a Taurus, Gomez is nothing if not devoted to every single member of his family, and there is almost zero probability of him letting them down.

Gemini – Wednesday

Wednesday Addams

Wednesday is the goth child in her clan, which is saying something since the Addamses are naturally drawn to the morbid and the grisly. Being a Gemini, she is astonishingly smart, evidenced by her fascination for history and geography (though in both cases, the gruesome kind.)

Wednesday cannot tolerate the boredom of routine, but this occasionally impacts her own romantic endeavors, as seen in her interactions with Joel Glicker.

Cancer – Abigail Craven

Abigail Craven

Abigail Craven, the “psychiatrist”, is a typical Cancer — her personality is intense to the point of being overpowering, and she displays a stunning perspicacity when it comes to manipulating the Addams family.

She exemplifies the negative aspects of the Cancer sign, for example, her deep-rooted pessimism and need to hyperfocus on any situation. Most of all, Abigail is ever so slightly unpredictable, but this doesn’t influence her decisions too much.

Leo – Pugsley

Pugsley and Wednesday Addams

Pugsley adores being center stage: chalk it up to a combination of adolescent hormones and scientific skill. He invents a ton of complex gadgets, including the disintegrator and a talking automaton.

At the same time, the Leo in him makes him a kind of guide, emotional or otherwise, as he is regularly seen trying to help his sister and parents out in whatever way he can (as destructive and inefficient as his process might be.) Then again, Pugsley has a violent sense of humor.

Virgo – Morticia

Morticia Addams is the fulcrum that keeps the family perfectly balanced; she is the perfect mediator between all the different personalities that are contained within the mansion.

Other Virgo traits exhibited by her include her abiding sense of perfectionism, given that she generally wants everything around her to be stable and in sync. It is almost impossible to ruffle Morticia’s feathers, let alone force her to shift her facial expressions towards either extreme.

Libra – Cousin Itt

Cousin Itt

As a standard Libra, Cousin Itt is rather shrewd, not to mention extremely diligent. For instance, it is claimed that he possesses a ridiculously high IQ, even though people can barely understand his language (or are made anxious due to his hairy appearance.)

At the same time, nothing stops him from pursuing the profession of his dreams, regardless of how many times he is rejected, and the number just keeps increasing, unfortunately.

Scorpio – Uncle Fester

Is it a Scorpio feature to be a living conductor of electric current? Well, it certainly sounds like something this energetic zodiac sign would be capable of.

Uncle Fester isn’t terrified of anything, and while that could be because he lacks the gene for personal safety, it makes him willing to try out risky things, such as bathing with boiling water or allowing his nephew to light a cannon aimed in his direction. How he survives any of this is beyond logic.

Sagittarius – Tully Alford

Tully Alford

Tully Alford is the lawyer who tries to cheat the family out of their money, and colludes, in classic Sagittarian audacity with Abigail Craven, so they both can achieve what they want. In his case, to have his financial obligations forgiven.

He temporarily wins his “case”, but soon realizes that he has messed with the wrong household when he is accidentally on purpose interred by the Addams children. So much for the optimism of Sagittarius.

Capricorn – Grandmama

Carol Kane Grandma Addams

Grandmama is one of the most persevering characters in the franchise, as evidenced by her announcement that she had voted in the 60th US Congress Elections, despite women not having the right to do so for another couple of decades.

The Capricorn in her is quite strong, apparently, mainly in her openness and candor when it comes to doling out her personal brand of wisdom or producing the best wisecracks.

Aquarius – Thing

Thing Addams

The Aquarius sign is best appreciated for its inherently mystical qualities and absolute acceptance without the slightest hint of judgment. As such, it defines the disembodied hand known as Thing, whose origins remain completely unknown, probably for the sake of mystery (and it works).

In fact, Thing is helpful beyond measure, involving himself (?) in an assistant or service role, for example, as a remote control, alcohol production, or even changing the ambient music.

Pisces – Lurch

Carel Struycken as Lurch in The Addams Family film

Lurch is a Pisces if there ever was one — he is honest, trustworthy, and devotedly loyal to the family, always ready to answer their beck and call when they ring his iconic gong.

His kindness and generosity is evident from having to pick up after the mess left behind by the Addams’ various adventures, and he does this without so much as a groan (or maybe a couple.) Lurch is a machine, practically speaking, although his resemblance to Frankenstein’s monster suggests a literal interpretation.
