Where was the hit comedy sequel Pitch Perfect 2 filmed? Arriving back in 2015, Pitch Perfect 2 befittingly bore the tagline “We’re back, pitches.” Picking up three years after the Barden Bellas first took the competitive collegiate a cappella scene by storm, the sequel sees the girls at the top of their game until an embarrassing scandal leaves them suspended replaced by German group Das Sound Machine on the competition victory tour. Luckily, Beca (Anna Kendrick) brokers a deal that allows the Barden Bellas to re-enter the competition on the condition they win the World Championships of A Cappella in Copenhagen, Denmark.
Most of the original Pitch Perfect stars returned but there were a few new additions to the Pitch Perfect 2 cast, including Hailee Steinfeld as freshman and new Barden Bellas recruit Emily and Flula Borg as Das Sound Machine member Pieter, plus a ton of celebrity cameos from the starry likes of Snoop Dogg, Christina Aguilera and Jimmy Kimmel. Alongside new cast additions, there were lots of new Pitch Perfect 2 songs as well with musical mash-ups featuring tracks by artists like Jessie J, Beyoncé, Taylor Swift and David Guetta.
Like the original Pitch Perfect movie, the sequel was set mostly at the fictional Barden University in Georgia but where was Pitch Perfect 2 filmed? Much of the movie was shot in and around the Louisiana state capital Baton Rouge, with the Louisiana State University acting as a stand-in for Barden University itself. Campus locations featured in the film include The Quad, the LSU Student Union and the Reilly Theater – the latter of which serves as the Barden Bellas’ rehearsal space.
The Pitch Perfect 2 cast and crew also filmed at Baton Rouge’s Old Governor’s Mansion which doubled as the Barden University dean’s office and the auditorium at Baton Rouge Magnet High School, which hosted a scene featuring a performance by the Barden Bellas’ former rival group the Treblemakers. Local haunted house The 13th Gate is also featured in the movie’s riff-off scene during which the Barden Bellas compete in an underground a cappella slam.
At the end of Pitch Perfect 2 the Barden Bellas travel to Copenhagen to compete in the World Championships of A Cappella but the cast and crew didn’t actually film these scenes in Denmark. Instead, they used Jackson Square in New Orleans’ French Quarter as a stand-in for the European capital, while the movie’s climactic competition was really filmed at Highland Road Community Park in Baton Rouge.
