The 2023 film Thanksgiving is heading to Netflix for its streaming debut while still remaining available through various services on PVOD. The Eli Roth horror movie, based on one of the fictitious trailers from the 2007 movie Grindhouse, was released in theaters on November 17, 2023, and got its Blu-ray and DVD release on January 30, 2024. Thanksgiving‘s comedic premise and outrageous gore earned it fair reviews from critics, with an 84 percent on Rotten Tomatoes. Now, the bloody holiday-themed spectacle can be enjoyed from home.
Thanksgiving, which is set in the holiday birthplace of Plymouth, Massachusetts, picks up the year after a deadly Black Friday riot takes the lives of several locals. Seemingly attempting to seek revenge, a man in a John Carver mask begins picking off teens and other residents one by one, setting the town into a state of over-stuffed terror. Thanksgiving is brought to life by cast members including Patrick Dempsey, Nell Verlaque, Addison Rae, Rick Hoggman, and more, and is now available to watch through various services.

Thanksgiving is distributed by Sony Pictures, and since the company has an exclusive deal with Netflix, the streaming giant will be the first official home for the Eli Roth film. Typically, movies from Sony hit Netflix between four to six months after the theatrical release. However, Thanksgiving, which was fittingly released in theaters in November 2023, is coming to streaming only three months later on February 17, 2024. This accelerated timeline is likely due to the film’s potential to do even better on Netflix than it did in theaters.
Despite the theme of Thanksgiving revolving around the holidays, its comedy-horror status will make it the perfect movie to watch on a quiet night in any month of the year. Leading up to the film’s opening weekend, it was projected to make between $12 to $15 million, and it came in right on the mark at about $10.4 million. Overall, Thanksgiving grossed $31.9 million in the US and Canada, which is great for a project of this genre. Still, this stint with Netflix is where the film is sure to really find its viewership.
