Other than James Bond, few other characters have been as enduring in action and suspense-filled literature, movies, and TV as Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan who was introduced in the 1984 novel, The Hunt for Red October. Since then, there has been a natural inclination to bring Jack Ryan to screens, and he was the central character in five movies prior to the first TV series premiering in 2018. Before John Krasinski took on the role, A-list stars including Alec Baldwin, Harrison Ford, and Ben Affleck starred as Jack Ryan, each giving their interpretation of Clancy’s protagonist.

The Jack Ryan TV series started with a familiar premise of Ryan, a CIA agent, discovering some suspicious bank transfers from the Middle East which inevitably leads him into a dangerous world of murder and intrigue. After the second season of Jack Ryan ended in 2019, fans were relieved to know a third season was finally in the works.

What Happened to Jack Ryan Since Season 2?

After uncovering a South American conspiracy that became all too personal, Season 2 of Jack Ryan ended with Ryan threatening to kill the President of Venezuela. Though Ryan had discovered President Reyes had ordered assassinations and the rigging of elections, holding an elected official at gunpoint on foreign soil is not the best optics for a CIA agent. Despite the uncertainty of Ryan’s future working for the U.S. government, in Season 3 he is found working as a CIA case officer in Rome. From the Season 3 trailer and information that has been released, the forthcoming EPs will feature a storyline familiar to Air Force One, whose hero President James Marshall drew many comparisons to Jack Ryan. A rogue group of Soviet Union sympathizers is determined to bring the empire back to its former glory and of course, nuclear weapons are in the mix. When Jack Ryan investigates, he discovers that it’s only part of a wider conspiracy.

Several of the regular cast members of Jack Ryan are returning for Season 3, including Wendell Pierce as James Greer and Michael Kelly as Mike November. Also, Michael Peña playing Domingo ‘Ding’ Chavez will reportedly reunite with Jack Ryan at the end of this season. The appearance should serve as a jumping-off point, as the fan favorite of past Tom Clancy novels and movies is set to star in a spin-off series. Notably, Jack Ryan will be piloted by a new showrunner, Star Trek: Discovery co-producer Vaun Wilmott, as the series heads toward its fourth and final season.
