Where to Watch Dharma & Greg

We are all familiar with the old adage “opposites attract,” but Dharma & Greg takes it to a whole new comedic level. Running from 1999 to 2002, the show features beloved characters that still feel as much like friends as they did when the show first premiered.

Created by Chuck Lorre and Dottie Dartland, the eight-time Golden Globe nominated and six-time Emmy Award nominated show won the hearts of audiences. It starred Jenna Elfman and Thomas Gibson as the odd couple who said I do after just one date. Not only are audiences captivated by their rushed marriage, but also by how much they embody the idea that “opposites attract.” Dharma is a free-spirited yoga instructor, while Greg is a sensible attorney. Their upbringings could also not have been more diverse, leading to a series of misunderstandings between the two throughout the episodes. Unsurprisingly, mixing the daughter of two hippie parents raised without the concepts of social norms with the son of a staunch conservative family given the most elite education can cause quite the kerfuffle.

When you’re ready to meet or revisit your favorite TV “odd couple” that feels more like friends, you can check out Dharma & Greg on Amazon Prime.

So Much to Love

Where to Watch Dharma & Greg

One of the most captivating elements of Dharma & Greg is the way in which you are drawn into the side characters’ stories just as much as the main couple’s. While most episodes focus on the mayhem that is created by the couple being so diametrically different, you can’t help but be interested in the colorful cast of supporting characters.

Dharma’s mom Abby (Mimi Kennedy), for example, shows audiences exactly where her daughter gets her free-spirit from. She believes in free love and abstaining from societal norms. Her partner, and Dharma’s father, Larry (Alan Richins) has an unmatched affinity for pot and an unfounded paranoia that he is being hunted by the FBI. The captivation runs on both sides of the family, as Greg’s wealthy socialite parents keep viewers intrigued. Kitty (Susan Sullivan) is an arrogant housewife that would put the ladies of the Real Housewives franchise to shame with her affiliation for only the finest things in life. Edward is a high-powered businessman who does his best to keep himself out of his wife’s cross hairs.

Why Did Dharma & Greg End?

Dharma And Greg

Dharma & Greg was wildly successful, bringing in 13.9 viewers in its first season. The show’s popularity continued to increase, gaining 15.76 million viewers in its third season. However, things took a turn by the fourth season when ratings significantly declined. Unfortunately, the show had an abrupt ending, leaving fans disappointed that they didn’t get a proper goodbye.

Dharma & Greg Reboot?

Many would assume it would make complete sense for Dharma & Greg to be next in the line of shows being rebooted. Unfortunately, at this time, it does not seem like fans will get to revisit these characters in a reboot any time soon. In an interview last year on The Real, Elfman shared that there were no conversations about a reboot at this time.

However, fans get a small glimpse of one of their favorite couples in a place they might not think to look. Chuck Lorre, a co-creator on Dharma & Greg, went on to create a very popular show, Two and a Half Men. An episode of Two and a Half Men, entitled “Nice to Meet You, Walden Schmidt” featured both Elfman and Gibson as a bickering couple that has been married 15 years.

Dharma & Greg was actually produced by 20th Century Fox and Two and a Half Men was produced by Warner Brothers. For this reason, it was a little bit complicated to obtain the rights for the Dharma & Greg characters. To get around this, Elfman and Gibson appeared on the episode without character names. When asked about if it was really the beloved characters, Lorre winked and didn’t explicitly confirm. However, viewers have picked up on enough subtle nods to the characters in the episode, such as references to Greg’s uptight family, to know that it was them.
