Since the release of the 2023 Netflix documentary Longest Third Date, viewers have wondered where Khani and Matt are today and whether they are still together. Directed by Brent Hodge, the basic premise of Longest Third Date is that it follows a couple named Matt Robertson and Khani Le who met on Hinge. After going on two dates, the duo decided on a whim to fly out to Costa Rica and spend their third date together on a getaway vacation. However, what Matt and Khani did not take into account or predict before going on this extravagant third date was the COVID-19 pandemic.
What was supposed to be a four-day trip quickly turned into three months because when Costa Rica initiated its COVID-19 lockdown, Matt and Khani were forced to remain in the country and live together in their Airbnb. The documentary film provides a raw and honest look into how Matt and Khani made the most of this situation, how they managed to live and work together, and ultimately how their love blossomed because of this bizarre experience. After three months of living together and falling in love in Costa Rica, Matt and Khani finally managed to fly back to the US. But what happened to them afterward?
What Happened In Longest Third Date
Initially, Matt and Khani were very stressed about their difficult situation. Not only were they forced to remain in a country that they were not from, but they were also in lockdown with a person they didn’t know very well. Fortunately, Matt and Khani were able to overcome these obstacles, as they made sure to be completely open and honest with each other. As Khani shared with People:
Additionally, because they were still technically on their third date, the two always had to come up with fun activities to do on the spot, and they were able to consistently make each other laugh and happy. Matt explains, “We would do Airbnb experiences or things online, like a Tango lesson. Just anything fun and unique.” While not every single day they spent together was happy and stress-free, by the time they were able to return to the US, the two formed a very strong bond. As Matt states, “We ended up being a really good team in that way.”
Khani & Matt Are Still Together
Happily, after the release of Longest Third Date, Khani and Matt are still together. While naturally, the two wanted some space and privacy after spending three months together in Costa Rica, they eventually decided to stay together as a couple. Three years later, Khani and Matt are living together in New York City. Both Khani and Matt have stated that had they not been forced to live together for three months and gone on a normal third date instead, their relationship would have been completely different. As Matt explains, “We probably would have gone our separate [ways]… I think everything happens for a reason.”
