What’s Underneath The Adjudicator’s Mask In John Wick’s Prequel?

What’s Underneath The Adjudicator’s Mask In John Wick’s Prequel?

Warning! This article contains spoilers for The Continental episode 2.

The Continental episode 2 featured the second appearance of the villain known as the Adjudicator, further raising the question of what is beneath the character’s face mask. The Adjudicator appeared in The Continental episode 1 as an agent of the High Table tasked with finding the stolen coin press. This task was further detailed in The Continental episode 2 during a scene in which the Adjudicator confronted Cormac for his failure to locate the coin press stolen by Frankie.

Despite The Continental‘s Adjudicator having a John Wick connection, the appearance of the character is much different in the former given that it is an earlier holder of the Adjudicator title. One of the defining traits of The Continental‘s Adjudicator is a porcelain mask worn on the bottom half of the High Table agent’s face. By The Continental episode 2’s ending, the Adjudicator removes her mask for only Cormac to see which visibly shakes the titular hotel’s manager. This only furthers speculation about what is underneath the Adjudicator’s mask and whether this question will be answered by the show’s end.

The Continental Hints The Adjudicator Is Disfigured Under Her Mask

What’s Underneath The Adjudicator’s Mask In John Wick’s Prequel?

Thus far, The Continental has not provided an adequate look at what the Adjudicator’s face looks like beneath the mask. The only hint came in The Continental episode 2 when the villain removed it to eat something from Cormac’s plate which seemed to disturb the latter character. As such, it is likely that the Adjudicator’s face is highly disfigured beneath the mask which is one of the only possible explanations for Cormac’s reaction to her removing the face-piece.

This could connect to The Continental and John Wick‘s overarching villainous organization: the High Table. It has long been established that the High Table is incredibly ruthless when dishing out punishment for breaking rules or to their enemies. It could be the case that the Adjudicator’s injuries beneath her mask were given to her by the High Table. This would fit with the John Wick films while also explaining one of The Continental‘s mysteries.

The Meaning Of The Adjudicator’s Hungarian Mask Explained

An interesting element of the Adjudicator’s mask in The Continental is that it looks similar to porcelain masks often found in Hungarian culture. While this could simply be a visually engrossing design detail, it could also provide a hint at the Adjudicator’s backstory. As is known from the John Wick films, the High Table has worldwide connections that span most of the major countries in the world.

From the Continental hotels in Rome, Casablanca, and Osaka to the High Table’s connections in the United States, it is clear the organization has a wide reach. This is likely the case for a country like Hungary too. As a result, it could be the case that the Adjudicator has connections to the Hungarian branch of The Continental or the High Table. That said, little has been revealed about the Adjudicator in the show thus far from her injuries beneath the mask to her backstory, something that The Continental’s final episode will hopefully change.
