What WWE 2K22 MyRise Gets Right About Storytelling

What WWE 2K22 MyRise Gets Right About Storytelling

With players having several options to choose from in regards to WWE 2K22’s MyRISE, the new mode is able to tell a meaningful story that fans may find themselves attached to. With 2K Games and Visual concepts taking a 2-year hiatus after the downfall of WWE 2K20, the newest iteration in the wrestling franchise came back better than before, along with receiving positive feedback from the public. In addition to its return, the title revamps itself by improving its visuals, changing the combat system, and also bringing along a few new game modes as well.

In regards to the game modes featured, the typical My Career mode that has been featured before has been rebranded as MyRISE in WWE 2K22. While it does bring over some notable features that have been present in WWE 2K20, this new one varies enough in terms of gameplay experience to be considered completely different than before. Due to the poor reception of 2K20’s story mode, it can be understandable why some fans may be hesitant to jump in and experience everything that MyRISE has to offer.

MyRISE still allows players to create their own wrestler, but this time around they can now choose a backstory for them that has an effect on their stats along with their playstyle. Even though it doesn’t play a major role in the plotline, the feature can make fans attached to their wrestler as it gives them charm. Not only that, but it also plays an effect on dialogue options that players will encounter and how other wrestlers featured in WWE 2K22 will address them in their wrestling career.

WWE 2K22’s Story Gives Players Creative Freedom

What WWE 2K22 MyRise Gets Right About Storytelling

Similar to My Career, players start off at the performance center, however, after completing the training portion, they have a choice of going to either RAW, Smackdown, or even NXT. Unlike how it was in WWE 2K20, all of the storylines aren’t intertwined with each other. Not only do male and female superstars have their own plotline, but each of the shows does as well depending on if a superstar is a face or a heel. With the story branching so many times, it puts the game mode to roughly around 50 hours to complete all of the show’s individual story arcs.

Once players start to get the hang of everything, they may come to find the game mode to be an enjoyable experience. In comparison to WWE 2K20, WWE 2K22 is by far better as the story mode doesn’t lead player’s down a linear path and force them to take certain routes. However, it still does have a few segments that do feel underwhelming, but it can easily be overshadowed due to other opportunities for redemption being available.

WWE 2K22’s MyRISE gives players the freedom to make their wrestler the way that they want to and gives them creative freedom in the process. The more matches that are played, the more they can level up and move up the WWE ranking. All this in mind is what makes the title a better storytelling experience compared to what the public has seen before.
