What To Expect From Titans Season 3

What To Expect From Titans Season 3

It has been officially confirmed that Titans season 3 is happening (now through HBO Max), but when can fans expect to watch and what story will the next chapter entail? After a gritty reimagining of the New Teen Titans comics created by Marv Wolfman and George Perez, the titular heroes returned for Titans season 2 under the tutelage of Dick Grayson. Unfortunately, new threats rapidly emerged in the form of Slade Wilson (a.k.a. Deathstroke), Doctor Light, and Cadmus Labs – all of which threatened to divide and conquer the team once and for all.

Titans season 2 kicked off in September 2019, almost a full year Titans season 1 debuted on DC Universe and later on Netflix. Returning to Titans Tower in San Francisco, Dick Grayson started training what was dubbed Titans 2.0. The new Titans team comprised season 1 mainstays Rachel and Gar. They were joined by Jason Todd, whose presence was upgraded from season 1 guest-star to a Titans season 2 regular. The characters of Hank, Dawn, and Donna were each retconned to have been a part of Dick’s original Titans team – which also included the ill-fated Garth (a.k.a. Aqualad) and served as the source of the conflict with Deathstroke. Titans season 2 also saw the official introductions of such well-known DC characters as Conner Kent, Rose Wilson, Jericho, and even Bruce Wayne.

Each of the threads culminated in a packed Titans season 2 finale that pit the heroes against various enemies and even each other. With Gar and Connor brainwashed and unleashed upon a carnival, the Titans had no choice but to reunite in spite of Deathstroke’s vowing brutal consequences. The often thrilling action ultimately led to the long-awaited emergence of Dick Grayson’s Nightwing persona. Unfortunately, it also led to the senseless death of Donna Troy (a.k.a. Wonder Girl) and the departure of Rachel. Whether or not that is destined to stick, however, is just one of the many questions left hanging ahead of Titans season 3.

Titans Season 3 Release Date

What To Expect From Titans Season 3

As per the initial announcement from DC Universe and Warner Bros, Titans season 3 is definitely happening. Though initial plans saw the third outing scheduled for release in late 2020, production was understandably delayed by COVID-19. Things have since gotten firmly back on track, however, with filming on the new run of episodes set to conclude on June 10, 2021. It was later announced that Titans season 3 would begin airing in August 2021.

Titans Season 3 Story Details

Blackfire's eyes glow outside in Titans.

Unlike the Titans season 1 finale, Titans season 2 managed to wrap up the majority of its overarching plots. Deathstroke was defeated, the machinations of Cadmus Labs were halted, both of their brainwashed allies were restored, and the Titans were finally, officially, united as a team. Still, the Titans season 2 finale wasn’t without any stage-setting for the future. After a season of Kory being divided between helping the Titans and dealing with her own familial problems, the latter looks set to escalate from more than the occasional tease. That fact was highlighted in the finale’s closing moments — with her murderous sister, Blackfire, revealed to have arrived on Earth and positioning herself as the Big Bad of Titans season 3.

Equally, Rachel (a.k.a. Raven) was last seen choosing to leave with The Amazons and Donna Troy’s body – believing her ever-increasing powers could help resurrect the fallen Wonder Girl. Dick Grayson remained understandably skeptical. Fans, however, will no doubt tilt more towards being hopeful. With Donna’s death deemed disappointing and unnecessary, many would no doubt like to see her return. And given the unstable, occasionally darker side of Rachel’s powers, it could be that Titans season 3 offers a vastly different Donna.

After venturing back and forth across the country in Titans season 1, the titular group set up shop largely in San Francisco for Titans season 2. Things were confirmed to be changing yet again in Titans season 3. For reasons not yet clear, the young heroes will next relocate back to Dick Grayson’s old stomping grounds of Gotham City. As a result, the chances for more clashes (and/or reconciliation) with Iain Glen’s Bruce Wayne (a.k.a. Batman) increased. Equally, the move would allow the team to battle against Batman’s own rogue’s gallery, as well battle alongside members of the Bat-family — of which, until now, have only been teased.

Titans Season 3 New Cast Info

Titans Team Shot Season 2 Finale

Titans season 3 will mark the return of Brenton Thwaites as Nightwing, Anna Diop as Starfire, Ryan Potter as Gar Logan, Alan Ritchson as Hawk, Minka Kelly as Dove, Chelsea Zhang as Rose Wilson, and Joshua Orpin as Conner Kent. Also set to return will be Teagan Croft as Rachel Roth, whose departure was likely storyline based to explain how Donna Troy returns from death in Titans season 3. The latter will likely remain played by Conor Leslie. Equally, despite leaving the team in his rear-view mirror, Curran Walters’ Jason Todd was confirmed to return — and will finally adopt the Red Hood persona. Given that Jericho’s consciousness was last seen transferred into Rose’s body, Chella Man could also be a returning presence.

Rumors for new additions to Titans season 3 have ranged from Roy Harper to Danny Chase (a.k.a. Phantasm). Confirmed changes, however, include Damaris Lewis, who was upgraded to a regular as Blackfire. Savannah Welch was also cast as Barbara Gordon, who will serve as Gotham City Police Commissioner rather than Batgirl. Jay Lycurgo will debut as Tim Drake (a.k.a. the third incarnation of Robin). Sharon Ferguson was cast as Starfire and Blackfire’s mother, Queen Luand’r. And Vincent Kartheiser was confirmed to be playing Dr. Jonathan Crane (a.k.a. Scarecrow). How all these disparate elements ultimately come together will be officially made clear when Titans season 3 (or some official trailer footage) is released.
