What To Expect From The Invisible Man 2

What To Expect From The Invisible Man 2

Warning! Spoilers for The Invisible Man

Leigh Whannell’s The Invisible Man appeared in theaters, earning positive reviews from critics and audiences alike; the movie’s open ending leaves plenty of room for a sequel, but will it happen?

The modern update of H.G. Wells’ classic story provided audiences with white-knuckle tension from start to finish. The updates on the titular character hit in all the right ways to make him a modern marvel and imposing villain for a new technological age. Standout performances by Elisabeth Moss as Cecilia Kass and Oliver Jackson-Cohen as Adrian Griffin tell a story that’s perfect for the #MeToo era and women who have to fight to be believed when they try to escape often vicious cycles of abuse.

Blumhouse’s decision to step up and help resurrect the Dark Universe is almost a guarantee that there will be more horror-centric monster movies based on those from the classic era. Universal’s focus to go with standalone films over interconnectivity within franchises to showcase the best stories is a promising take as well. With The Invisible Man being successful and choosing to leave room for future installments, a sequel could very well be on the horizon. Here’s everything we know so far about The Invisible Man 2.

Will The Invisible Man 2 Happen?

What To Expect From The Invisible Man 2

As of this writing, The Invisible Man has a 91% on Rotten Tomatoes, and reviews for the film have been largely positive, with few negative critiques. This, coupled with the film’s meager budget of only $7 million when opening weekend has been forecast to exceed $20 million in gross sales, means the film will be marked as a success. Universal’s hesitance to revive the Dark Universe before stemmed from the failure of 2017’s The Mummy, but since The Invisible Man is a promising property – and Whannell left it open for a sequel – it’s very possible one could happen in the future. Currently, Universal has not announced that a sequel has been green-lit.

The Invisible Man 2 Release Date

Since there’s been no confirmation of a sequel, there is also no release date for The Invisible Man 2. However, given Blumhouse’s track record with releasing films quickly, it’s possible one could happen by 2022, if the project is green-lit by the associated studios. Whannell’s The Invisible Man began filming in July 2019 and wrapped in September 2019, leaving a five-month turnaround before release, approximately. Since that’s very fast, if the project was green-lit any time in 2020, it’s possible there could even be a new movie in 2021.

The Invisible Man 2 Story

The Invisible Man Movie 2020 Remake

At the end of The Invisible Man, Cecilia puts on Adrian’s invisibility suit to make it look like he committed suicide, when in actuality, she murdered him. James stops her while she’s leaving with the suit, and the two share an understanding of what truly happened, but she gets away with Adrian’s murder. This opens up lots of possibilities for a sequel, and a story that could follow Cecilia now that she’s living her own life – free from Adrian – and has his cutting-edge technology in her possession. While Whannell could create a new story that focuses more on the technology instead of on Cecilia, it seems the most likely opportunity would be to follow her. As she has a great deal of power, it’s always possible that power could corrupt or the suit could fall into the wrong hands.

The Invisible Woman Is Also In Development

Banks came up with the story and will co-write the script with Erin Cressida Wilson (The Girl on the Train), and will direct, produce, and star in the film. There is currently no release date for The Invisible Woman.
