What To Expect From Solar Opposites Season 2

What To Expect From Solar Opposites Season 2

Hulu will likely move forward with Solar Opposites season 2, but what will the storyline be, and when will new episodes premiere? Created by Justin Roiland and Mike McMahan, the animated series is similar to the pair’s Adult Swim collaboration Rick and Morty but functions as a stand-alone series with plenty of surreal sci-fi twists.

In Solar Opposites season 1, five aliens land on earth after their native home, planet Shlorp, is rocked by an asteroid. Parents Korvo (Roiland) and Terry (Thomas Middleditch) clash over their differing priorities, and siblings Jesse (Mary Mack) and Yumyulak (Sean Giambrone) attempt to assimilate while shrinking people and keeping them in a terrarium maze prison. There’s also a mysterious being called The Pupa, which is supposed to terraform the planet but mostly just gets up to mischief. In supporting roles, Solar Opposites season 1 features voice acting from Alfred Molina as The Duke, Jason Mantzoukas as Vanbo, and Tiffany Haddish as an A.I. system called Aisha.

The penultimate episode of Solar Opposites season 1 revolves around a revolution among shrunken people. In the season finale, the primary action takes places within a Shlorp-themed “time stream” and builds to a major misunderstanding. Here’s everything we expect for Solar Opposites season 2 on Hulu.

Solar Opposites Season 2 Renewal

What To Expect From Solar Opposites Season 2

Hulu initially ordered a two-season run for Solar Opposites in August 2018, so the production wheels have been spinning for nearly two years. The initial season consists of eight 22-minute episodes, and it’s been confirmed that Solar Opposites season 2 will also have the same format. Whereas some streaming services often categorize separate batches of episodes as one full season, it seems that any new episodes for Solar Opposites will be part of a brand new installment, Solar Opposites season 2.

Even though Hulu greenlit a two-season run, that doesn’t necessarily mean that fans should expect Solar Opposites season 2 to premiere later in 2020. For example, Hulu has maintained a one-season-per-year model for the adult animated series The Awesomes, so expect the same process to be kept for Roiland and McMahan’s series. Producer/writer Josh Bycel recently stated that “The scripts for the second season are pretty much almost done and we were able to send home the animators with computers.” It’s likely that Solar Opposites season 2 will premiere in May 2021, give or take one month.

Solar Opposites Season 2 Story

Solar Opposites Season 1 on Hulu

In the Solar Opposites season 1 finale, Terry and Korvo utilize their “RetraceYourStepalizer” in order to travel back in time two years, hoping to find a wallet on Shlorp, but the journey proves to be rather difficult, as Vanbo’s appearance implies that they may indeed be stuck within a time stream. Back on Earth, Jesse seemingly turns her brother Yumyulack into a GameBoy cartridge, which leads to a confusing conversation between the collective aliens. As it turns out, they’ve merely been trapped in a PretendoDeck. Solar Opposites season 1 concludes with a big tease involving The Pupa, who breaks the fourth wall and says “See you next season.”

Solar Opposites season 2 will theoretically explore the rise of The Pupa and how the sentient being can affect life on Earth. But the primary storyline will likely involve the collective aliens learning to truly love their new planet, which will inevitably lead to some type of conflict with their color-changing comrade. Of course, there’s also a revolution brewing at “The Wall,” which will function as the big narrative wild card for Solar Opposites season 2 on Hulu.
