What To Expect From Good Girls Season 3

There’s no time to pause when you’re neck-deep in criminal activity, which is why NBC giving audiences Good Girls season 3 in 2020. The series, which stars Christina Hendricks, Mae Whitman, and Retta, was renewed for season 3 while season 2 was on the air. In fact, the renewal occurred just six episodes into season 2.

Good Girls follows Beth (Hendricks), whose husband, her high school sweetheart Dean (Matthew Lillard), leaves her for another woman and in near-financial ruin. Beth’s little sister Annie (Whitman) is hardly doing any better as the divorced mom of a teenager who is trying to make life on minimum wage work for them both. Meanwhile, Beth’s good friend Ruby (Retta) is trying to find a way to pay for her treating her daughter’s rare disease. This pushes all three women into a life of crime and they are soon in over their heads.

The Good Girls season 2 finale saw Beth choosing to shoot her new love interest and criminal ally, Rio (Manny Montana), instead of Detective Turner (James Lesure). Beth believed Rio was dead and she was cool with Turner, who allowed her to escape. However, it turns out, Rio might be alive, having made a deal with Turner to help catch Beth. As for Ruby and Annie, they’re slowly turning their focus back toward their personal lives as Ruby tries to work on her marriage to Stan (Reno Wilson) and Annie juggles love interests old and new while trying to be a more attentive, involved mother to her child, Sadie (Isaiah Stannard). Needless to say, there’s a lot going on leading into Good Girls season 3.

The three friends in Good Girls

Good Girls season 2 left Beth, Annie, and Ruby in some very interesting places. The biggest question for Good Girls season 3 is: will the girls be able to pull off the new counterfeit money scheme Beth has cooked up so they can start making bank again? There’s other loose ends, including whether or not Rio will work with Turner to help catch Beth committing a crime, if Ruby’s husband will find out what she’s really been doing in her spare time, and how Annie’s relationships with new love interest Noah (Sam Huntington) and her ex-husband, Gregg (Zach Gilford) will pan out.

Executive producers Jenna Bans and Bill Krebs spoke with TV Guide about what viewers can expect to see more of on Good Girls season 3. Beth, Ruby, and Annie going deeper into crime will be a means to explore the relationships between the women. As Bans told TV Guide“We have an interesting idea of taking that friendship dynamic even further in Season 3, because these women are really sisters in that they can hate each other one second and love each other the next.”

Looks like we’ll have to wait until early 2020 to find out what Good Girls season 3 has in store.
