What To Expect From DC’s Harley Quinn Season 2

What To Expect From DC’s Harley Quinn Season 2

Warning: The following contains SPOILERS for Harley Quinn season 1.

Warner Bros. has confirmed that Harley Quinn has been renewed, but what can fans of the Clown Princess of Crime expect to see in season 2? The story for the new season is currently unknown, but fans will not have to wait long to find out what’s in store for Harley, Ivy and the rest of the miscreants making up the show’s supporting cast.

After being delayed for several months from its intended August 2019 premiere date while the DC Universe schedule was adjusted, Harley Quinn opened to rave reviews in late November 2019. The first original animated series produced for the streaming service, Harley Quinn scored an 89% Fresh rating with critics on Rotten Tomatoes. It also earned an 84% favorable rating with fans.

It’s no surprise that Harley Quinn season 1 proved popular with comics readers, as the show was a tribute to the utter insanity of the DC Comics’ universe and the realities of what being a supervillain would entail. The show’s humor came just as much from things like the media covering the relationships between superheroes and supervillains like celebrity romances as it did from the inclusion of obscure and comical supervillains like Calendar Man. It seems safe to say this tone will be maintained in the coming season of Harley Quinn, but what else can fans expect to see?

Harley Quinn Season 2 Story Details

Not much has been said about the story of Harley Quinn season 2, given the sudden nature of its confirmation and release date. With Gotham City destroyed in the season 1 finale, it is hard to say what the setting will be. About the only certainty is that between most of the Justice League being trapped in a storybook, Joker destroying the Hall of Doom to show up Harley, Batman going missing and Joker’s fate uncertain after a bath in a sanity-inducing acid, everyone is going to be out to get Harley for one reason or another.

One thing shippers of Harley Quinn and Poison Ivy can look forward to is that the new season will address the possibility of a romantic relationship between the two. While Harley Quinn showrunner Justin Halpern was quiet on the details in a recent interview with the Geeks WorldWide, he did say that he always intended to bring the relationship into the show, but that it was necessary to get both Harley and Ivy into the right frame of mind and establish them as characters before love could truly blossom between them.

“I don’t want to spoil it, so I’ll just say I think we get to the place where people want us to get to, but we do it carefully. We’re not trying to bait anyone or tease anyone. We pay off things off in a satisfying way but we want to make sure we earn it.”

Another fun detail came to light on Halpern’s personal Twitter account, where he confirmed that Kite-Man survived the destruction of Gotham City. Replying to a fan who wrote about loving all the obscure Batman villains that were worked into the show, Halpern noted that season 2 would introduce another D-List villain as Kite Man’s nemesis. Thankfully fans will not have to wait long to learn the identity of this new villain, as Harley Quinn season 2 will be here very soon.
