New adventures have arrived in Story of Seasons: Pioneers of Olive Town following the release of the third DLC expansion pack. This new content will take players to a charming town located within the Terracotta Oasis, and introduce familiar characters from a past Story of Seasons game. While it doesn’t look like the expansion will include new crops or animals, traveling to new locations may be just the thing needed to freshen up Pioneers of Olive Town gameplay.
So far, Story of Seasons: Pioneers of Olive Town has had rocky reception since its release in March. The Story of Seasons title has struggled with broken mechanics like Maker Machines, a lack of festivals, and repetitive dialogue that can make NPC interactions a chore. While many of these issues have been addressed in the Pioneers of Olive Town 1.0.5 update, which is currently available in Japan and the EU, the fixes still haven’t been made available to North American players. Because of this, many may be relying on the DLC expansions to tied them over while they wait.
The Pioneers of Olive Town expansion pass is expected to release five expansion packs in total, with the final expansion releasing in August 2021. Players can purchase the Story of Seasons: Pioneers of Olive Town DLC pass in a bundle with the base game for 69.99 USD or buy it separately on the Nintendo store for 19.99 USD. Currently, the pass has added a number of outfits for both the player’s character and romanceable NPCs, a side story called the “Olive Town Mystery Files,” and the Windswept Falls location. Windswept Falls also included the return of four characters from Harvest Moon 3D: A New Beginning.
The Terracotta Oasis will be similar to the Windswept Falls expansion. According to XSEED, players will be able to travel to a small desert town and interact with four returning characters. This time, they will be from the Story of Seasons game for the 3DS, including Giorgio, Marian, Iris, and Raeger. Like in Story of Seasons, Iris and Raeger will be romanceable in Pioneers of Olive Town, and both have their original personalities and occupations from their original game. Raeger is a dedicated chef who runs his own restaurant, and Iris is an accomplished novelist. Giorgio and Marian will be available for nostalgic conversations but will be able to do little else.
For those who enjoyed the first expansion’s additional story content for Story of Seasons: Pioneers of Olive Town, the expansion pack expected for July will is supposed to contain an additional storyline for the Earth Sprites that help players keep their farms. It will also come with another event called the “Sprite Dance.” While not much is known yet about the Sprite Dance, it will hopefully be a more fleshed-out event than what is currently available in Story of Seasons: Pioneers of Olive Town, offering players a more satisfying way to engage with the game’s NPCs.
