What Silent Hill On PS5 Could Look Like

A new Silent Hill game is rumored to release on the PS5. Over the last decade, the survival horror genre has adapted and evolved to fit with the times as player taste grew and shifted. Titles such as Resident Evil 7 create an atmosphere of stress and tension, while titles like The Last Of Us are more story and character-driven. Needless to say, both approaches to the genre have been quite successful, and many quality titles have been churned out in the process. However, one of the series to inspire much of what modern horror has to offer is Silent Hill.

According to a leaker, a new Silent Hill installment is finally coming, and it’s going to be an exclusive for the upcoming PS5. The leaker claims that Sony will most likely decide to show off the game at some point in August or September. All this information seems suspiciously particular, but this leaker has had a positive track record in the past. Well before Resident Evil 8 was even announced, they not only claimed that the game was in development but also noted some story details. To everyone’s shock, not only is Resident Evil 8’s existence very real but also much of the narrative details acknowledged appear to be accurate.

Given this leaker’s detailed account of Resident Evil 8, it is reasonable to assume that his information on the new Silent Hill is also true. The last mainline game in the series was eight years ago in the form of Silent Hill: Downpour, although in 2014 Kojima and his team released a demo for the PS4 that was meant to eventually be developed into a full Silent Hill game. This demo is the now infamous P.T., which in its own right is highly regarded by everyone who was lucky enough to experience it.

What a New Silent Hill Game Could Be Like

What Silent Hill On PS5 Could Look Like

Considering the successes of games such as Outlast and Resident Evil 7, it is reasonable to assume that the new Silent Hill project will be quite similar gameplay-wise. In many ways, those games actually mirror what P.T. did as well. Although it was only a tech demo, the playable trailer for Silent Hills was certainly a visceral and chilling venture. It’s possible a new Silent Hill game could potentially continue or flesh out the story from P.T. Kojima leaving Konami seemingly erased all chances of the demo becoming a fully-fledged game, but considering how successful the project was, it would make sense for Konami to pursue this story even further.

However, it’s far more likely the company would take the series in either a new direction altogether or at least implement some sort of ‘soft-reboot’ ideas to allow them to reuse characters and situations players are already familiar with. With so many Silent Hill games over the years, many fans are likely confused as to what is and what isn’t canon in the series, and it would be good for a new game to establish either entirely new events or at least tell players where they are in the Silent Hill timeline.

The thought that Silent Hill is returning to an up and coming platform is exciting to consider. The information provided seems quite credible, but right now the game’s existence is the only thing readily apparent. Fortunately, the wait for a trailer shouldn’t be very long at all given this leaker’s word, so players should be sure to look out for a trailer dropping in the coming months.
