What Movie Is The Marvels’ [SPOILER] Cameo Setting Up?

What Movie Is The Marvels’ [SPOILER] Cameo Setting Up?

Warning! This post contains SPOILERS for The Marvels

The Marvels sets up an exciting new movie and team within the primary MCU thanks to a major cameo. As seen at the very end of the new MCU movie, Kamala Khan’s Ms. Marvel (Iman Vellani) tells Captain Marvel (Brie Larson) that she has an idea for the future. This opens the door for the return of one of the MCU’s newest heroes, bringing with her the tease of a brand-new Marvel project that has yet to be officially announced.

If there’s one thing the MCU’s Phases 4 and 5 have done well, it’s the introduction of new heroes. This is especially true of heroes belonging to a younger generation who are currently positioned to take on the mantles of existing MCU heroes and could one day step into new roles as Earth’s Mightiest Heroes. Ms. Marvel seems to be well aware of this fact at the very end of The Marvels, hence her exciting meeting with none other than Kate Bishop’s Hawkeye (Hailee Steinfeld). Here’s what Ms. Marvel’s meeting with Kate Bishop means for the future of the MCU and the potential new project it’s teasing.

The Marvels Sets Up A Young Avengers Movie

What Movie Is The Marvels’ [SPOILER] Cameo Setting Up?

Hiding in the shadows as Kate Bishop returns home, Kamala Khan humorously channels Nick Fury from the MCU’s very first post-credits scene from 2008’s Iron Man when he recruits Tony Stark to the Avengers Initiative. Offering the “chance to become part of a bigger universe” just like Fury gave to Iron Man, Kamala is recruiting Kate for a team of her own design, one that’s focused on younger heroes. To that end, it seems pretty clear that this team would be the MCU’s version of the Young Avengers who would likely come together in a movie of the same name.

Additionally, Kamala coming to Kate Bishop first makes perfect sense. Not only is she somewhat older compared to some of the other potential Young Avengers who’ve been introduced in the Multiverse Saga thus far, but she was also an original member of the Young Avengers as seen in the original comics. If anyone is primed to become a core member of the Young Avengers on-screen, it’s Kate Bishop’s Hawkeye.

Young Avengers Cast: Who’s Confirmed To Join Marvel’s Team?

Cassie Lang, Ms Marvel and Kate Bishop unite as the Young Avengers in the MCU

As it stands, the only three confirmed members of the Young Avengers are Ms. Marvel, Kate Bishop, and Ant-Man’s daughter Cassie Lang. When Ms. Marvel confirmed she had some leads on other heroes she was looking to recruit beyond Kate, Cassie was specifically mentioned. This certainly tracks based on the Young Avengers roster in the comics. Not only was Cassie a member of the Young Avengers alongside Kate in the comics, but the two of them became very close friends. As such, it would be very exciting to see the duo coming together on-screen in the near future (all thanks to Kamala).

There have been several other new heroes who’ve been introduced in the Multiverse Saga beyond Kate and Cassie with Young Avengers connections in the comics, alongside other young heroes who have no established comics affliction but could still become part of the MCU team (like Ms. Marvel herself). In total, there are around 16 heroes who could be part of a Young Avengers cast in the current MCU.

Naturally, the recently introduced heroes with established Young Avengers history from the comics do seem like top contenders for a future MCU project, though heroes such as Riri William’s Ironheart and Hulk’s newly revealed son Skaar seem like they would fit right in as well, especially considering Ironheart and Ms. Marvel’s history on the similar comics team of young heroes known as the Champions. It’s also worth mentioning that a version of the Vision has returned to the MCU as seen at the end of WandaVision which does have potential considering the the android’s involvement in the Young Avengers comics.

Young Avengers Story: What Marvel’s Team-Up Movie Could Be About

All actors who could be playing the Young Avengers in the MCU

While it’s hard to tell what a Young Avengers movie or show would be about, there is a compelling opportunity to involve a variant of the Multiverse’s overarching villain Kang the Conqueror (Jonathan Majors). As seen in the comics, a core member of the Young Avengers was Nathaniel Richards aka Iron Lad, a variant of Kang from the future who saw his villainous destiny and sought to reject it, coming to the present with the hopes of becoming a hero instead. As such, a heroic version of Kang struggling to resist his dark fate would be very interesting in light of the imminent threat that is the Council of Kangs.

At any rate, Ms. Marvel has begun recruitment as seen in The Marvels, and it’s just as exciting as the other team of heroes that was teased in The Marvels’ post-credits scene. Ms. Marvel’s meeting with Kate Bishop’s Hawkeye certainly helps confirm the ongoing theories that the MCU has been building toward a Young Avengers project, even if one has yet to be officially announced. With any luck, more details will be revealed by Marvel Studios in the coming months.
